Good evening, Ladies and gentlemen, It’s our pleasure to have you as our guests here this evening. The title of this evening’s lecture is transatlantic futures. I think that there’s no doubt that there is a special relationship between the UK and US, that relationship, which has its foundation in two nations that are traditional allies and very strong trading partners, is being debated and written about all the time

It’s my great honor to welcome you to the special high-level meeting. During the last four years, our spring meetings have evolved into a unique forum enabling dialogue between key policy-makers on financial, monetary, development and foreign affairs. They have contributed to the strengthening of coordination cooperation, as well as, maintaining an important focus on the Millennium Development Goals

A massive effort is now required to mobilize more and better cooperation for development and to build an international economic system more conducive to the development of the poor

In six days, the Intellectual Property Protection Publicity Week will commence, in which the main theme is to respect intellectual property and maintain the market order. This will be a large-scale activity for publicizing and protecting intellectual property rights, specially organized in China to welcome the World Intellectual Property Day. We may say that the news conference today is the beginning of this activity

The Chinese government has always attached great importance to strengthening the protection of intellectual property right. The annual government report explicitly demonstrated that we should further strengthen the protection of IPR, combat and punish the piracy and infringement by the law. As a result, the government has put the fight against the counterfeit production and sales and protection of IPR on its top work agenda in the year 2004 for rectification and standardization of the national market economic order

September to 11th every year, which is co-organized by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development and the World Associations of Investment Promotion Agencies Since 1997, 7 sessions have been successfully held
