“Your dress is loud” 的意思可不是“裙子很吵”

大家都知道clothes是衣服的统称，是复数形式，但cloth是clothes的单数吗？clothing又是什么意思呢？我们就好好区分一下cloth、clothes、clothing三个词

cloth指的是布料，是不可数名词，所以要说a piece of cloth。但如果cloth是指有某种特殊用途的布，又变成了可数名词，比如桌布a table cloth。而clothes就是指衣服的统称，本身已经是复数。

clothing也是衣服的统称，但却是不可数名词。clothing比clothes更抽象，也更正式。food and clothing是一个习惯搭配，意思是衣食。

我们都知道loud意思是大声的、吵闹的，是形容声音。但怎么用loud来形容裙子呢？

当用loud形容衣服时，意思是俗艳的、花哨的，loud = too bright or have too many bright patterns，相当于garish、gaudy。

loud除了可以形容衣服以外，还可以用来形容人，这时loud = someone who is loud talks too loudly and confidently，意思是招摇的、咋呼的。
