厄瓜多尔临时接任南美国家联盟主席

Ecuador temporarily holds the secretaryship of the Union of South American Nations (Unsaur) after its secretary-general Nestor Kirchner died Wednesday, Ecuadorian Foreign Minister Ricardo Patino said on Wednesday. Ecuador will hold the position till Nov. 26, when Unasur countries agree on a replacement for Kirchner, who died of a heart attack on Wednesday morning, Patino said. Kirchner's death will not affect the transfer of the Unasur temporary presidency from Ecuador to Guyana, said the foreign minister. "Due to the coup attempt in Ecuador on Sept. 30, Kirchner had told us to work out a democratic clause of Unasur, in order to isolate any coup attempt in South America," Patino said. Kirchner talked about the issues on supporting Haiti's reconstruction after January's earthquake and aiding the Caribbean country for the current cholera outbreak, he added.
