Your Tarot Card for 2020
Ace of Cups in the Tarot deck
Your Tarot card for 2020 is the Ace of Cups, Libra. This illustration by Pamela Colman Smith (who became a Roman Catholic) inspired by Arthur Waite (who had been a Catholic) is sometimes associated with a child’s first Holy Communion. It actually has a broad range of meaning, but it is certainly associated with youth.
This might be The Fountain of Youth, if you like, reminding you that no matter how much older a son, daughter, godchild, niece, nephew or grandchild grows - there is a part of them which is forever the infant you knew. That connection could be reborn in 2020 as you go through these rare transits in Aquarius, in the Fifth House of your solar chart. The Fifth House is very much associated with the Christening font as well. Some people believe the cup to be a font.
If you look closely at the card Pamela illustrated, you can see lotus flowers floating on a river. This is also a reminder of Tibetan Buddhism and the Hindu religion in India. The dove of peace holds the Christian cross symbol, above.
I mention this, because for the first time in 19 years, the North Node is moving into Gemini, which rules everything that you believe, or have faith in. The child that is born in 2020, or reborn (no matter what age this ‘child’ actually is these days) suggests a spiritual angle as well.
The North Node in Gemini
For example, your son may win a scholarship to an Anglican school and choose religion as one of his subjects. The actual outcome will be personal to you - and is decided by your personal birth chart. A younger niece in her twenties may lose her drug habit, go to India and invite you there for a spiritual experience. The outcomes are wide and varied with this card, though the central theme is the same. What is this card saying to you?
Your Diary Dates for 2020
Aquarius Season bookmarks the beginning and end of 2020, with a New Moon in Aquarius on Friday 24th January. On Saturday 1st February, Ceres also moves into Aquarius, and stays in that zodiac sign until Thursday 23rd April. Mars moves into Aquarius on Tuesday 31st March and remains there until Wednesday 13th May.
What is also remarkable about this time-frame is that for the first time in 29 years, Saturn also enters Aquarius, on Monday 23rd March.
Friday 24th January
New Moon in Aquarius - Sun 4 Aquarius, Moon 4 Aquarius
Sunday 2nd February to Monday 16th March
Mercury Retrograde in Aquarius (allow a day either side for world time zone differences). You can expect communication, information and even transportation to go backwards and get stuck, as Mercury backtracks at 28 and 29 Aquarius in your chart.
Monday 3rd August
A Full Moon in Aquarius shows you the differences, gaps or conflict areas surrounding a birth or rebirth, quite clearly. The Sun in Leo is opposite the Moon in Aquarius at 11 degrees then.
Monday 21st December
Jupiter at 0 Aquarius conjunct Saturn at 0 Aquarius. Momentous. There is a real ‘chapter one’ feeling about any aspect when it falls right at 0 degrees of a zodiac sign. The next generation will be so much closer then - and this is the dawning of a new era for you.

Your Tarot Card for 2020
Eight of swords in the Tarot
Scorpio, your Tarot card for 2020 is the Eight of Swords. A woman is blindfolded, with her arms tied behind her back, surrounded by eight swords. Sometimes the number eight is significant with this card. Perhaps this is about August (the eighth month) or the 8th day of any month. It’s worth mentioning - just in case.
I mentioned the impact of the eclipses on you. We’ve had a series of these - some in your zones of home and work - others in your zones of mental processes, ideas and understanding.
The blindfold here has been coloured by Pamela Colman Smith very carefully, and you will see a patch of white, obscured by grey and black shadows. Just like a total eclipse of the Moon, when the Moon can be immersed in the Earth’s shadow.
Even the coppery glow of an eclipse is shown in the coppery robes of the person in the card. Pamela’s Tarot works in mysterious ways.
The Eclipses and You
In astrology, eclipses correspond to the idea of being left ‘in the dark’ or experiencing a blind spot. Not knowing, or seeing, as you normally would. The Moon can cover the Sun on an eclipse. So, after a chain of them, you need to uncover the truth. Discover what you were blind to, before.
A total eclipse, showing Baily’s Beads, looks rather like one lens in a pair of perfectly dark glasses. Or, if you prefer, one contact lens completely covered in black cardboard.
That’s where you have been, Scorpio, and it shows in the card. When the Sun plunges us into night in the middle of the day, farmyard animals go to bed; owls shut their eyes; bats emerge from their holes; ants stop working; horses refuse to move; some plants close up. It’s an unnatural thing.
You experienced a total eclipse on Friday 27th July 2018 with the Sun in Leo, your sector of ambition and mission - opposed by the Moon in Aquarius, in your sector of home and location. The effects continue, yet for the first time in many decades, we have two planets changing signs (to Aquarius, just before Christmas 2020) which can remove the blind spot, or help you take off the blindfold you see in this Tarot card.
The process begins far earlier than that; it will be evident as early as the New Moon in Aquarius on Friday 24th January. The building you see on the cliffs, in the background, is a symbol of an apartment, house, holiday home, business premises, office or corporate headquarters. The message is clear - a new space and new place is waiting, if you want it.
The swords which surround the woman in this card represent the attempts made against you, ever since Uranus moved into Taurus, your opposite sign, on Wednesday May 16th, 2018. Uranus is a symbol of all that is erratic and unpredictable. See the way the swords have landed. There is no rhyme or reason to them. This may have been just one person, trying to pierce your defences, or more than one individual - perhaps a group.
What is really fascinating about this card is the illusion of entrapment. The swords may at first glance appear to be set in stone, but they are merely lodged in sand on a low tide. When the tide comes in, the swords will fall. This is a reminder that the lunar cycle, behind all those eclipses you have experienced, is tied to the tides. This too shall pass. Everything changes.
Of course, nobody wants to feel all at sea on a high tide. You (your female side, represented by the woman in the card) can and should break free, long before that happens. In fact, just by moving this woman around in the card, you can knock the swords over. Or - you can turn the figure around to use the sharp blade of one sword, to cut away the ties that bind. Perhaps there is just one simple knot, behind her back. A few finger movements could release her, then the blindfold could come off.
I hope you can see what Pamela’s amazing Tarot is trying to tell you. Forget the blind spot. There are many, many ways to escape, be liberated, exhilarated and finally - to move on, with work or home, as that distant roof is a symbol for a new place in the world.
Your Diary Dates for 2020
Scorpio, the dates when we see strong Uranus patterns in Taurus are a good pointer to your year ahead. Uranus is a symbol of rebellion, freedom, independence and the end of who or what ‘enslaves’ us. In fact, this planet was found in 1781 when America broke free of Great Britain - and when a slave named Elizabeth Freeman won her freedom in court. So when you are home free?
Allow a day either side for world time zone differences.
Uranus in Taurus and Freedom
As the issue for you, has been those against you (or just one person against you) we are not only looking for Taurus patterns, which are about old attempts to embattle you - but also Scorpio patterns, which are very much about how you publicly deal with issues. Very close to these dates you have a chance to break free.
Sunday 8th March
Venus 4 Taurus conjunct Uranus 4 Taurus
Thursday 23rd April
New Moon - Sun at 3 Taurus conjunct Moon at 3 Taurus

Changes in Your Mental Attitude
Freedom is a state of mind. Your ruler Pluto joins Jupiter the planet of opportunity, in your Third House - three times - in 2020. The Third House rules your thought processes. How you talk to yourself. Your life scripts and attitudes, ideas and understanding. This is the first and last time you will see these patterns. Pluto rules self-discipline, self-control and willpower. This is what empowers you and transforms you, in 2020.

Your Tarot Card for 2020
Nine of swords in the Tarot
Sagittarius, your Tarot card for 2020 is the Nine of Swords. At a glance, you can see how your horoscope is revealing itself in the card. This person has insomnia, or cannot get to sleep - despite the comfort and charm of the bedroom. The swords are not physically there. They are figments of your imagination. Worries about the future, perhaps, or flashbacks to the past.
It is possible you have experienced surgical or medical issues since Uranus went into Taurus back on Wednesday 16th May, 2018. If that is the case, there is a different reason for any sleep disruption.
For the most part, though, what we have here are memories or imagined concerns, about who or what might be opposing you.
This makes sense, as you are experiencing the North Node in Gemini from Wednesday 6th May and it can bring back memories of the last North Node in Gemini cycle in 2001-2003, depending on your personal chart. This Node cycle can also lend more emotional significance than would normally be the case, to passing issues - because past life memories and old karma is triggered.
All this is shown by the swords hanging in the night air, above your head (you are the person in the card). If the swords were to vanish, a good night’s sleep could be had. Sweet dreams.
One of the astonishing things about Pamela Colman Smith’s cards, created under the direction of Dr. Arthur Edward Waite, is that they contain so many zodiac secrets.
Taurus and Gemini Cycles
Look carefully at the patches on the quilt on the bed. On the first row you will see Taurus. On the second row you will see Gemini. Both of these signs are important to you in 2020.
Uranus in Taurus in your zone of lifestyle, suggests the need for a radical change. Aromatherapy? Massage? A different sleep cycle? Cutting out caffeine? The answer is in yourself and your chart.
Gemini is of course where we find the North Node, right opposite you, which might explain why the sleepless figure in this card feels ‘swords’ flying. We associate swords with duels or battles. There is something here from your past, which needs to be sorted out, perhaps. Maybe it is just a thought about your future. Again, it can be sorted out - if you are prepared to be radical.
This card is very much about yourself and another. Past, present or potential future. Look at the bed and you will see Pamela has illustrated two figures, etched into the wood. What is this card saying to you? “The true tarot is symbolism; it speaks no other language and offers no other signs,” wrote Dr. Arthur Edward Waite. The Tarot he created with Pamela has indefinite combinations and it is yours to unlock. In a moment I will show you dates to turn everything around, mentally and physically.
Your Diary Dates for 2020
What we’re looking for here, are strong Uranus ‘freedom’ signals in the sign of Taurus, which rules your lifestyle, relaxation and wellbeing. Let’s do that first.
Uranus Transits in 2020 - Liberation Days, Radical Changes
I am enclosing a Full Moon here, because it is often the tipping point. A Full Moon is always D-Day in astrology. Allow one day either side for world time zone differences.
Sunday 8th March
Venus 4 Taurus conjunct Uranus 4 Taurus
Thursday 23rd April
New Moon - Sun at 3 Taurus conjunct Moon at 3 Taurus
Sunday 26th April
Sun 6 Taurus conjunct Uranus 6 Taurus
Friday 1st May

Thursday 7th May
Sun 17 Taurus opposite Full Moon 17 Scorpio
Change Your Mind, Change Your Life
The Jupiter-Saturn conjunction of 2020 is historic and your final excuse to alter your mental attitudes - in your favour - forever. The process begins far earlier, on the New Moon in Aquarius on Friday 24th January, but it peaks just a few days before Christmas, 2020.
Monday 21st December
Jupiter at 0 Aquarius conjunct Saturn at 0 Aquarius.

Your Tarot Card for 2020
Nine of Pentacles in the Tarot
Capricorn, your Tarot card for 2020 is the Nine of Coins/Pentacles/Discs. Here we see a woman for whom everything in the garden is lovely. Money is growing on trees, or at least on the grapevine. At her feet, a snail slowly crawls across the card, suggesting the slow passage of time. In the background you can see two trees (family trees) representing both sides of your dynasty. A house, apartment, holiday home or business premises is in the background, to the right of the card.
I am sure you can see the astrological cycles hidden in this card. Your ruler Saturn is moving into your zone of investment, property, charity, business and income on Monday 23rd March. Saturn is called Old Father Time by some. He is usually shown with an hourglass, or with a clock. Sometimes, a scythe.
Things move slowly but surely on Saturn cycles and you are walking into one. Rather than living for the moment (as this enraptured lady is doing) you may want to think about the long-term future.
You can see a falcon on her glove. This can also be taken for an eagle, which is Jupiter’s bird. Jupiter, a symbol of great good fortune and excellent timing, is also moving into your zone of money in 2020.
Capricorn, you also have Chiron and Mars in your Fourth House, which rules the family tree and your sense of roots, heritage, history, belonging and place. Chiron enables you to pull off the so-called impossible. You can get away with remarkable things on this kind of transit. What is this card saying to you? Look for the snail, the falcon (or is it Jupiter’s eagle?) Find the grapes and think about vintage years for costly wine - as a symbol in your life.
Your Diary Dates for 2020
Aquarius is the zodiac sign which rules your bank, investments, lifestyle, security, prosperity and property. Here are some key dates in the process of saving or making money, in 2020:
Make a fresh start on the New Moon in Aquarius on Friday 24th January. On Saturday 1st February, Ceres, a symbol of compromise and deal-making, also moves into Aquarius, and stays in that zodiac sign until Thursday 23rd April. Can-do planet Mars moves into Aquarius on Tuesday 31st March and remains there until Wednesday 13th May. That is a really good moment to get busy.
Saturn also enters Aquarius, on Monday 23rd March. He is your ruler and cautions you to take all that you own, earn and owe as seriously as you can. Look to the calendar.
This could be a period of long delay or ‘press pause button’ with business, financial or property matters so be aware of that.
Monday 3rd August
A Full Moon in Aquarius is not that useful for major decisions unless you have to make them. The Sun in Leo is opposite the Moon in Aquarius at 11 degrees then.
Monday 21st December
Jupiter at 0 Aquarius conjunct Saturn at 0 Aquarius. The new era is here. Capricorn, when Pluto enters Aquarius from the year 2023 onwards, all the hard work you achieved in 2020 could pay off.
水瓶座Your Tarot Card for 2020
Nine of wands in the Tarot
Aquarius, your Tarot card for 2020 is the Nine of Staves - sometimes called Rods or Wands. Here you can see yourself represented as the wounded words warrior, looking resentfully and rather suspiciously at a group of people, or at least their opinions and ideas, in the background.
The odd thing about this situation is the similarity of the branches, which are always symbols of words on paper (trees in the last century, when this Tarot deck was created, always being pulped for books, magazines and newspapers).
These days this may as well be a line-up of iPhones or laptop computers. See how the figure in the foreground (you) is hanging tightly on to his/her phone, laptop, book, magazine or newspaper. One of the things about Aquarius is - it’s a fixed sign. You are ruled by Uranus, a planet which is very much associated with unavoidable change, but also resistance to change.
If you look closely at the branches (Staves/Wands/Rods) in the background, you will see a four-leafed clover growing from more than one of them. An old symbol for luck.
The fact is, in 2019, Jupiter (the lucky planet) was most certainly in this same zone of groups, clubs, teams, bands, associations, societies, charities, bands, parties, ensembles and the rest. Your social life and social media. The people power networks in your life. So, this Tarot card is also reminding you that luck sprouted last year and it is yet to reveal its potential.
Were these branches to be planted in the right soil (the green hills behind look lush and full of potential) a tremendous thing could grow and spread. Were they to be used to build a cabin, hut, house or hall - they could house almost anything. The Tarot is telling you, everything is possible.
The bandage on the head, here, suggests a time for recovery, repair, rest and recuperation. Perhaps the hands need to relax and letting go is in order. Maybe, once enough time has passed (Saturn is all about time, and he is entering Aquarius this year) you could put the past behind you and join this collective effort?
There is something about this figure, though, that suggests there is also freedom to grab one’s laptop, phone, book or newspaper and stride off into the distance seeking new pastures and fresh comrades, allies or friends. What will you do with your card?
Sometimes the ‘ideas people’ or thinkers, writers, internet users and big talkers in the Nine of Staves are just friends. You all use Twitter, or you all meet in the pub at the local quiz team. If there has been a parting of the ways, or one occurs in 2020, it would be interesting to move beyond individual hurts or raw feelings and actually look at what it is, that unites you.
Your Diary Dates for 2020
Aquarius, the Sagittarius weather in your Eleventh House of groups and friends, is really where the action is in 2020.
Mars Conjunct Chiron in Aries
This falls in your zone of ideas, opinions, the media and the internet and it takes place on 14th July, 2020. I mention it, because this difference between yourself and others is intellectual.
The South Node in Sagittarius and the Group
Old karma dating from October 14th 2001 to April 13th, 2003 is activated this year. The South Node is back in Sagittarius from Wednesday May 6th 2020, until January 19th 2022. As you’ve seen, this may even go back into past lives - like the end of the war.
Wednesday 6th May
The South Node enters 29 Sagittarius for the first time since 2001.
Friday 5th June
The Full Moon Lunar Eclipse at 15 Sagittarius is a reminder not to judge or act, regarding these people. It’s a blind spot/cover-up.
Sagittarius Season Sunday 22nd November
The Sun enters Sagittarius followed by Mercury and Venus, all moving together until Monday 21st December. The New Moon Solar Eclipse on Monday 14th December falls at 23 Sagittarius: avoid judging or acting then. The end of 2020 as a whole feels like the last chance you will have to regroup, rejoin or walk away.

Your Tarot Card for 2020
The lovers in the Tarot
The Lovers is one of Pamela Colman Smith’s most famous cards. It shows a naked woman and man, playing Eve and Adam, with a serpent (temptation) in the apple tree behind the woman. A volcanic mountain is behind them, and it’s a phallic symbol. Behind the man, is what Australians might call a Flame Tree. Some Tarot readers see ‘a burning bush’ which is British slang for a different sort of thing altogether!
In other words, this is about sex, as much as it is about love. The woman in this card bears a striking resemblance to Roman sculptures of Venus, and perhaps Pamela had her in mind when she was illustrating the female side of the equation.
Venus was not one for simple relationships. She was jealous of her daughter-in-law and struggled with her - and her own son, Cupid. She was the mother of a cherub who impaled people with an arrow that delivered a short burst of painful passion. She was married to a blacksmith called Vulcan who she betrayed, to have sex with Mars.
The volcano in the background of this card is a sly hint about Vulcan, who is an asteroid in modern astrology.
You can’t miss the godlike figure above. This looks like an angel to some Tarot readers. To others it actually is God. Others see The Green Man of old British pagan folklore.
To an astrologer, this is the Sun, above all - and an eclipsed Sun, at that (or an eclipsing Sun). In 2020 we have this phenomenon taking place in the zodiac sign of Cancer, which as you’ve seen, is about emotions, as it is a water sign like your own. It is also very much about pregnancy - past, present or potential - for a great many Pisces people.
Sharp-eyed readers will also note the way the serpent is coiled around the tree (surely, a pictorial pun about ‘a coil’ or contraceptive). The clouds behind can be seen as greying pubic hair, or a sure sign of the menopause and a loss of fertility. The more you gaze into this card the more you will see yourself.
Your Diary Dates for 2020
Pisces, the Cancer dates in 2020 are the most important, in terms of signalling decision time. I will include the eclipses, which are always blind spots - times to avoid - when neither you, nor the other person, may be seeing straight.
Allow a day either side for world time zone differences.
Friday January 10th
A Full Moon and Eclipse with the Sun in Capricorn opposite the Moon in Cancer. Best avoided for decisions or judgements regarding your former, current or potential lover. Or children.
Wednesday 6th May
The North Node leaves Cancer, never to return for another 19 years or so. This is the end of a karmic, emotional loop for you.
Tuesday 2nd June to Monday 27th July
Mercury Retrograde in Cancer. This may be a stop-start decision-making process, a stall in communication, or a disconnection (sometimes because of technology or more practical reasons).
Sunday 21st June
Here we have the Summer Solstice in the Northern Hemisphere and Winter Solstice in the Southern Hemisphere. Give or take a day or two, everyone will have her/his Stonehenge moment. The Sun appears to stand still, which is rather like an exclamation mark in the sky - or a dazzling full stop.
On this day, Sunday 21st June, we find the Sun at 0 Cancer conjunct the Moon at 0 Cancer, on an eclipse. As one of you is just not seeing - or looking - it’s not the time to judge or act.
Sunday 5th July and Monday 20th July
Again, an eclipse. This one takes place with the Sun at 13 Cancer opposite the Moon at 13 Capricorn. A Full Moon. It’s extremely unclear. We also have a New Moon in Cancer on Monday 20th July, so you’d have to reckon on July being an important month, here.
