Supersnazz - Superstupid! (1994)
fabiano
The all-girl rock band Supersnazz, named after the Flaming Groovies song, formed in 1990 with Spike on vocals, Tomoko on bass, Kanako on guitar and Skinnie Minnie on drums. They were recording less than a year after forming the band, and played clubs, along with like- minded Japanese punk/garage-rock oriented groups such American Soul Spiders (from which Teengenerate emerged), Jackie & the Cedrics and The 5.6.7.8's, as well as sharing gigs with foreign bands. They were soon friendly with a number of American bands, and began playing dates in the States in 1992. This led to them releasing material, often via compilations on a number of labels, including Bellingham, Washington's Estrus, Seattle's Lucky, New York's Baylor, Pittsburgh's Get Hip, Long Beach's Sympathy For the Record Industry, and ultimately to the then very hot Sub Pop. The band became friends with the Fastbacks, who they did shows with, who helped them get the Sub Pop gig, and Fastback member Kurt Bloch produced their EP I Wanna Be Your Love. In 1993 they released Superstupid! on Sub Pop, which was picked up by Sony in Japan. In Japan they played dates with Mudhoney and the Lemonheads, and later made an extensive European tour, in which they did 38 shows across 11 countries. In 1994 Skinnie Minnie left the band, and Hisayo, formerly of the Sleez Sisters, joined. In 1995 the band did three tours in the States, and had cuts on Canadian and Australian compilations. In 1997 they released their second album Devil Youth Blues on the Osaka based indie Time Bomb. Later that year came another drummer change, and this time Shoe from Teengenerate came aboard, becoming the first male member. In 1998 Supersnazz released their third album Diode City, and in 1999 The Barbarockets both on Time Bomb. In 2000 the band celebrated their ten year anniversary with a tour of Japan with the Canadian band the Smugglers. In 2001 the band released Rock-O-Matic from Loft Records, and performed at the Las Vegas Shakedown, as well as touring in Japan. In 2002 the band made their first ventures to Korea and Australia. The band remains active, and in 2004 contributed a spirited version of "Looking For A Kiss" for Johnny Thunders tribute album Valley of the Tokyo Dolls.(nippop) http://music.douban.com/subject/2171053/ 【bex4c6wu】
