Hiscox is an international specialist insurer and reinsurer. We provide market leading products and excellent service to individuals and businesses with unusual and often complicated insurance needs. In 2012 the Hiscox Group grew by 8% to £1,565.8 million gross written premiums. Despite the second most expensive storm on record for the industry - Superstorm Sandy, and record flood activity in the UK, Hiscox made a profit of £217.1 million and delivered a return on equity of 16.9%. We cover reinsurance and insurance risks that range from marine, terrorism, aerospace, technology, media and professional indemnity through to high value personal insurance, such as homes and contents, fine art, luxury motor, and kidnap and ransom, and are market leaders in many of our chosen areas. There are three main underwriting parts of the Group. Hiscox London Market, Hiscox UK and Europe, and Hiscox International: • Hiscox London Market underwrites mainly internationally traded business in the London Market – generally large or complex business which needs to be shared with other insurers or needs the international licences of Lloyd’s. • Hiscox International includes operations in Bermuda and Guernsey and Hiscox USA offering a range of specialist insurance and reinsurance. • Hiscox UK and Hiscox Europe offers a range of specialist insurance for professionals and business customers, as well as high net worth individuals. The role of Operations within Hiscox Working in our Business Change and Lean teams you will drive change and operational excellence throughout our business to ensure a streamlined and cost effective operating model. Our successful growth depends on fulfilling our vision of an efficient and responsive operations model, which underpins our position as a market leading specialist insurer. To join us in 2014 we are looking for one Graduate Business Consultant and one Graduate Lean Consultant. The responsibilities of a Graduate Business Consultant include: • The ability to work across our functions and measure the potential to deliver process improvements to improve efficiency and drive down cost • Develop and deliver process performance monitoring support for the group; including management of the Production Dashboard and the collection or reporting of related performance metrics • Implement the process performance operational plans using fact based management techniques and working closely with the business • Ensure improvement processes are aligned with corporate goals and framework. The responsibilities of a Graduate Lean Consultant include: • To deliver increased operational performance within Hiscox by improving accuracy and timeliness of risk reporting, improving efficiency, reducing or avoiding costs and increasing greater process control. This would be achieved through rollout of Lean projects and the continuous improvement mindset. • Coach and mentor managers, team leaders and teams to transfer the lean skills and mindset • Be an example of excellent Operational Management and Lean behaviours Person Specification Person Specification To be successful on the Hiscox Graduate Operations Scheme you must demonstrate the following: • Creative, proactive, logical and innovative – you do not accept the status quo • An ability to gather and use data to identify areas of change or improvement that can bring about the greatest benefit to the business • Strong written and verbal communication skills to build and develop relationships with internal and external stakeholders and to influence change • An ability to analyse data/information and explain the results clearly and succinctly • Computer literacy skills, especially an advanced understanding of Excel • An ability to work efficiently under pressure, both on your own and as part of a team, delivering accurate results to strict deadlines • Energy and determination to succeed in a very fast paced environment and a willingness to learn about and understand the business. Graduate Training Programme As a trainee you will follow Hiscox’s Graduate Development Programme, which will afford you access to a range of training and development opportunities. The programme will take two years to complete and will include at least two secondments to different areas of the business, lasting between six weeks and six months. You will also take part in a number of development centre workshops to enhance your capabilities as a future leader within our business. You will also be expected to undertake further study to complete relevant professional or academic qualifications; this will be fully funded by Hiscox. The aim of our Graduate Scheme is to create a talent pool of future leaders within our business. After you complete the scheme the world of Hiscox is your oyster! You will be able to apply for other roles within the group or progress your career within your business unit. Entry Requirements To apply for this challenging but rewarding role you will need to have at least 320 UCAS points at A2 level (excluding general studies), and have, or expect to obtain at least a 2:1 degree. This will ideally be in business-related degree, Economics or Operations Science. Study of A-Level Mathematics will be an advantage and you should also have the desire to undertake post-graduate study. You will also need to be geographically mobile in order for you to undertake all parts of our graduate programme which could involve travelling to Bermuda, the USA or Europe for periods of between six weeks and three months. Training You will follow the Graduate Development Programme, undertake secondments and attend two development centre workshops. You will also be expected to complete further study to achieve professional or academic qualifications. This will be fully funded by Hiscox.
