This is an introductory course for anyone interested in Wing Chun. No previous experience required. Wing Chun is designed to use simple, direct movements to overcome larger, stronger opponents. Utilizing the laws of physics to make intelligent fighters, we do not rely on pure speed and brute strength, but rather develop our position, sensitivity and timing. Proper training develops calm confidence and a healthy mind and body. Wing Chun is suitable for adults of all genders, sizes and athletic abilities. LEUNG SHEUNG WING CHUN is the transmission of the Wing Chun Kuen system as taught to Leung Sheung, Yip Man's foremost student. Leung Sheung placed a strong emphasis on accurate position, structure and relaxation to generate the proper energy for application. The Martial Arts are multi-faceted and include, but are not limited to, the ability to fight. In fact, fighting is the easiest of skills to gain. Living in a high-paced society, Wing Chun can help us to realign with our natural selves - physically, mentally and emotionally. When your breath is calm and your mind is sharp, you will be able to undertake even the most daunting tasks. What is contained in the Wing Chun Curriculum? The Wing Chun curriculum is composed of 3 empty hand forms, wooden dummy, 2 weapons as well as several partner drills and auxiliary exercises. Contact training is an essential part of our practice. 木人樁 Mook Yan Jong (Wooden Dummy) 六點半棍 Luk Dim Boon Gwun (6 and a half point pole) 八斬刀 Baat Jaam Do (8 chopping knives) The course will consist of 6 one-hour sessions on Saturday/Monday/Thursday between February 12-23. The first session is free and there is no obligation to join the others. The fee to join the entire 6 session course is RMB 600. David will guide you through the practice of mindful-alignment in motion. Then participants will engage in partner activities to put the practice under pressure. The session will be a blend of theory, solo work and partner work, explanation and feedback. The session will open and close with a short meditative practice. After spending his youth studying different martial arts, David was introduced to Wing Chun athrough his uncle. Not knowing much about this style nor where to learn, fate soon led him to meet Kenneth Chung in 2001. David continues to make regular visits to the US and Hong Kong to visit Sifu Ken. An educated Sinologist (one who studies Chinese culture), he has unique insights on Chinese Martial Arts and the mind-body-energy relationship. David started the Shanghai Leung Sheung Wing Chun Student Association in 2011, being the only representative of the Leung Sheung lineage of Wing Chun in mainland China. Since then he has been invited to several other countries to teach Leung Sheung Wing Chun. David's teaching methodology is influenced by his coaching career. He emphasizes inquiry, experimentation and testing to verify understanding. Shanghai Wing Chun is the only place in China to learn the proper practice of Wing Chun, as understood through the original principles which Yip Man taught selectively. This is not the same Wing Chun you have seen online or in any other branch. This is a unique and wholly authentic transmission of the art. We teach freely and expect dedication from the student. Based in Shanghai, we are the sole representation of Leung Sheung Wing Chun from the lineage of Kenneth Chung in Mainland China. We have satellite groups in Asia and Europe and other affiliated schools globally. RSVP: Please email shanghai.wingchun@gmail.com to RSVP for this event. You will receive a confirmation as well as location details.
