德兰修女是1979年诺贝尔和平奖获得者，被誉为继1952年史怀泽博士获得诺贝尔和平奖以来最没有争议的一位得奖者，也是20世纪80年代美国青少年最崇拜的4位人物之一。她创建的仁爱传教女会有4亿多美金的资产，世界上最有钱的公司都乐意无偿捐钱给他，她赢得了全世界人民的爱戴。然而，当他去世时，她全部的个人财产，就是一张耶稣受难像，一双凉鞋和三件旧衣服。
