                              Sonnet XLIII
　　How do I love thee?Let me count the ways.
　　I love thee to the depth and breadth and height.
　　My soul can reach,when feeling out of sight.
　　For the ends of Being and ideal Grace.
　　I love thee to the level of everyday's
　　Most quiet need, by sun and candlelight.
　　I love thee freely，as men might strive for Right;
　　I love thee purely, as they turn from Praise
　　I love thee with the passion put to use
　　In my old griefs, and with my childhood's faith.
　　I love thee with a love I seemed to lose.
　　With my lost saints,——I love thee with the breath，
　　Smiles， tears,of all my life!—— and, if God choose,
       I shall but love thee better after death!
作者简介：
　　伊丽莎白·巴雷特·布朗宁是英国维多利亚时期最受人尊敬、最为人喜爱的女诗人。1850年，桂冠诗人华兹华斯去世，伊丽莎白·布朗宁和丁尼生一起被当做后继人选考虑，虽然最后伊丽莎白·布朗宁落选了，但也足见她作为一位女性诗人在当时诗坛的地位和威望。另外，她虽然常常被人们习惯地当做是著名诗人罗伯特·布朗宁的妻子而提起，但实际上她的诗名却比她丈夫要高得多。
