如下：
1945年，一位美國富家小姐愛上了上海碼頭旁裁縫鋪老闆的兒子，終究是一段無疾而終的愛情故事，因為身分地位過於懸殊。後來富家小姐被迫返回美國嫁給電影導演，當了作家，沒多少光景便離婚收場，之後再嫁出版社商人，又複製了一場離婚，至此孤老終生。1983年，她的女兒帶著去世母親的日記和照片前去中國尋找母親的初戀情人。三個月後，在毫無音訊的情況下離去。數年後，一位從臺灣到大陸探親的先生聽聞該故事後，透過報社寫信告知那位富家小姐的女兒，前些日子在整理父親的遺物時見過這位小姐的照片，他猜測父親就是當時富商小姐的初戀情人。
那段1945年的愛情故事，衍生出一首華人皆知的英文歌曲「Shanghai Memories of 1945」，實在無法搜尋更多關於這首歌曲和原唱者Jewels Newton的資料，暫且把走失的事實擱在浪漫裡，即使是後人杜撰或誤植故事在曲子裡都沒關係，至少黃浦江上也有一段相思離別，不單是愛恨情仇、珠光寶氣的上海灘。
