【Peter Zumthor】
I've said goodbye to the overworked notion that architecture has to save the world.
【Herman Hertzberger】
If you think you can’t make the world a better place with your work, at least make sure you don’t make it worse.
【Michael Meredith】
I'm totally against the heroic stuff. We do little stuff. We are totally for the pathetic.
【Glenn Murcutt】
We do not create the work. I believe we, in fact, are discoverers.
【Buckminster Fuller】
I am deeply impressed with the designer of the universe; I am confident I couldn’t have done anywhere near such a good job.
【Denise Scott Brown】
Basically, the idea is that with everyone striving to be revolutionary, you will be most revolutionary if you try to be ordinary.
【Mario Botta】
Architecture is the constant fight between man and nature, the fight to overwhelm nature, to possess it. The first act of architecture is to put a stone on the ground. That act transforms a condition of nature into a condition of culture; it's a holy act.
【Kevin Roche】
I have interviewed thousands and thousands of office workers, laboriously asking them, "What do you want? What do you see? What do you care about?" and it is a very humbling experience. I recommend it to you when you are practicing architecture, to really talk and understand and listen, because we as architects tend not to.
【Alvaro Siza】
Of Course you condition perception through a building but you must be careful not to overdo it, otherwise you asphyxiate the user. It is necessary to find the right balance between the control of the experience of space, and a freedom which allows things to happen.
