Change lifestyle and attitude to prevent future environment damage
Environment problems, including global warming, water and air pollution, soil erosion, deforestation, are in the news thoughout the year because these problems caused by humans are serious threats to our society. People are becoming aware of the significance of protecting our sickening planet, some of them call for changing our lifestyle and attitude towards environment in order to live a harmonious life with nature.
It is necessary to change our ways of doing business and living our lives to prevent environment disaster. Let's take global warming as an example. Researches show that the air temperature has kept rising at the fastest-ever rate in recent years, which results in the melting of ice sheets, rising sea level and greenhouse effects. Things are getting worse: villages in Maldives are under the threat of being inundated by the rising waters, polar bears and penguins are losing their lovely home as the snow cap becoming smaller and smaller. Moreover, people now are complaining about the scorching heat in summer days. However, it is human beings who are huge contributors to the global warming and who should be responsible for these problems. Meanwhile, Efforts have been made by people after awakening the danger they are facing, such as reducing people's carbon footprints by taking public transportation instead of driving their own cars, saving waters and electricity in their daily life and changing the light bulbs into fluorescents. In addition, with the development of science and technology, more and more governments encourage research and development of new energy which is clean and renewable, and the most important, pollution-free, pushing for the use of wind mills and solar panels to provide electricity throughout the country, like Denmark, Swiden and China. Another example is the plastic bags. Almost everyone knows that the plastic bags take centuries to decompose, which can cause environmental damage. Nowadays, there's no free plastic bags any more in most countries, some cities in North America have even banned the use of them in supermarkets and stores, and shoppers have to pay for the paper bags. Some environmentalists claim that the best way to dramatically reduce daily carbon emissions is selling household cars because tail gas from vehicle emission is a major source of air pollution, suggesting green ways to travel, like people can share a cab, walk or ride their bikes to office. All these show that humans are actually doing something for our future environment by changing their attitude and lifestyle.
Simply put, without changing our attitude and lifestyle, human beings would find themselves live in a large garbage dump.
Carbon footprints will be immediately reduced by consuming less which means that we have to reduce consumption and live a very simple life. However, we can't throw away our cars, modern machines or something else to restrict consumption, just like we can't go back to ancient times and live our lives as simple as our ancestors. Instead, our broken economy needs consumerism to keep it running, after all, most of the country's GDP is attributed to consumer spending. It is well-known that economy developing plays an essential role in improving people's living standards and finally eliminating poverty, especially for developing and undeveloped countries. Therefore, we can't reduce economy growth while fighting against pollution.
In conclusion, environment pollution is such a problem that we shouldn't ignore but have to take action to prevent future damage. At the same time, we should keep our economy growing, try to balance the economy development with environment protection.
