命题:MADE IN CHINA by …
导师:Lucas Maassen & Sons (Lucas Maassen)
Lucas Maassen & Sons is a furniture company. Lucas Maassen employed his three sons Thijme (12), Julian (10) and Maris (10) to work for him. Due to Dutch child labour laws it is only possible for his sons to work for 3 hours a week, as a result production time is limited. In order to increase production they would like to dive in to the world of mass production. As a company they believe that mass production, when organized in a new manner, can lead to alternative production methods that gain value from its own process.
For the Lucas Maassen & Sons MADE IN CHINA by: workshop they set up a production facility in Guangzhou. During the workshop they asked this facility to produce 100 clocks. Thijme, Julian and Maris are each responsible for a version of the design of the clocks as well as for the briefing of the project. Their lack of experience and their broad imagination led to an a-typical set of deliverables which are interpreted by the new Guangzhou production facility employees.
Simpson Tse
While the nature of the design industry has convinced most of us that anadherence to modern life is not necessarily honesty, what does it mean, for a designer to communicate honestly, or authentically? Can we, so tospeak, “undesign” design?
Through exploring the three themes, “the self”, “the news” and “thedaily life”, this workshop invites its participants to untangle thison-going debate about the inner meanings of design, and to bring aconscious and critical eye to a designer's identities.

Mapping Typologies Guangzhou
导师:Atelier NL
You know Guangzhou. You see it every day. But there are many ways to look at a city. In this workshop by Atelier NL 14 students of the GAFA Academy went out into the city and got to see it from a new perspective. Their assignment was to gather specific stray and waste materials from the street.
Stories materialize by looking closely at, reflecting upon, and organizing the stray objects and waste materials found in urban and natural landscapes. This exhibition helps to appreciate the potential subtlety of what is there in any landscape. By appreciating what is normally overlooked, hidden stories start to reveal themselves giving soul to a place.
The students in the workshop have created Maps of Guangzhou that no one has seen before. In their colour, texture, and complexity, these unique maps will reveal as much about ourselves as they reveal about the secret life of the city around us. By zooming in and focusing on specific qualities and elements that can be found in every city, you will begin to see the potential wisdom and rich complexity that is hidden within the utterly mundane.
