A University with 18 Schools and 77 Departments, Majors, and Courses
Tokai University was founded as an academic institution in 1942. In the following year of 1943, an aeronautical sciences technical school was opened in Shimizu City in Shizuoka Prefecture, which would become the predecessor of Tokai University.
Tokai University was officially approved as a university in 1946 in accordance with the education laws of that time. The university certification application submitted to the Ministry of Education described a program for cultivating a unified understanding of the humanities and natural sciences from historical, national, and global perspectives. This “integration of the humanities and the natural sciences” has become the educational philosophy of Tokai University.
Based on these founding ideals and spirit of the university’s founder Shigeyoshi Matsumae, we are striving to develop human resources with a broad perspective and flexible creativity that holds no intellectual bias.
As a comprehensive university, Tokai University possesses the human resources, knowledge, technology, and functions of a fully-realized education and research institution. It currently has 18 schools and 77 departments, majors, and courses through which educational reform is regularly promoted together with the latest in research, with the fruits of these efforts passed onwards for the benefit of society.
