There are other possibilities for Prometheus
that the Greeks did not see:
forgetfulness, fatigue.
Through the centuries the treason was forgotten.
The gods forgot. The eagles forgot.
Prometheus himself, after so much time,
forgot the cause of his horrible punishment.
And also the fatigue:
The gods grew tired. The eagles grew tired.
Finally the wound closed from exhaustion.
All that was left, the inexplicable rock
facing the violent, unexplained
sea.
