从书里学到的地道的口语
2016年伊始,我读完的第一本书是《Wonder》。由于是一本儿童小说,里面均用孩子的口气所写,所以所谓高大上词汇几乎没有,但因为口语描述较多,这本书反而可以被好好利用一下,学习一下地道的口语用法。
阅读中,很多朴实但美丽的句子各种映入眼帘。比如:
If I found a magic lamp and I could have one wish, I would wish that I had a normal face that no one ever noticed at all.
(如果我有一盏神灯,并且可以许一个愿望,我便会祈祷我能有一张常人的脸庞并且没有人注意到我)
When given the choice between being right or being kind. Choose kind. (选择善良)

petrified:petrify (使惊呆)的变形,石化
I am pretty much totally and completely petrified. (我是完完全全彻彻底底的石化了)

huffy: 怒冲冲的
zombify: 使呆板
I hate how zombified his video games made him.

Only once did I look up to see some girls looking my way and whispering with their hands cupped over their months, but they looked away when they saw me notice them.
其中,cup: 动词, 使成杯状
ONCE: 1. adv. "one time"
They go for dinner together once a month.
My father once worked on an oil rig. (He no longer works there)
once upon a time: 固定词组,“很久很久以前”,多用于童话故事开头
2. “as soon as”, or "after"
Once I've picked her up. I'll call you.
ONLY:
when "only after", "only if", "only in this way"...are placed at the beginning of the sentence for rhetorical effect, the subject and auxiliary are inverted.
eg: Only after finishing your homework can you play.
!!! only+the subject: NO inversion
eg: Only you can understand.
in the beginning:一个过程的开头
at the beginning: 强调一个时间点
eg: Being at school was awful in the beginning.
