Hellenistic Decan(Face)
一、Essential Dignity中，我对于Decan(Face)介绍的很少，因为一直以来挖掘到的资料很少，也很少看到实际应用(卜卦占星中的计分除外)，即使古籍中有介绍，也类似常规对于星座的描述,只是由12星座变为36个区段，最近整理整理占星资料觉得还是应该写一些关于Decan的东西。

二、Decan(Face)有好几种系统(版本)，以下列举常用版本:
A、Chaldean Order版本(按照迦勒底星序的土木火日金水月的顺序安排星曜守护36个Decan，从白羊座的第一个区段火星开始按照星座顺序排列即可)。迦勒底版本的区段侧重星曜守护和区段的描述。
B、ManiLius版本，从白羊座开始，白羊座第一个区段白羊座，然后按照十二星座顺序类推，白羊座的三个区段为白羊座，金牛座，双子座，金牛座的三个区段为巨蟹座，狮子座，处女座，依次类推，双子座的三个区段为天秤座，天蝎座，射手座，巨蟹座的三个区段为摩羯座，水瓶座，双鱼座，狮子座的三个区段为白羊座，金牛座，双子座，以此类推，最后到双鱼座为摩羯座，水瓶座，双鱼座。ManiLius版本的Decan侧重区段所落星座，区段明确指明是12个星座之一，类似12th parts(Dodekatemorion)。(无图，我就不PS了)
C、Elemental元素版本，每个星座按照所属元素，划分三个区段，三个区段为星座所属元素的三元素星座，排列顺序按从所属星座顺序，例如白羊座的三个区段为白羊座，狮子座，射手座，射手座的三个区段为射手座，白羊座，狮子座，狮子座的三个区段为狮子座，射手座，白羊座。
三、列举两个占星研究者的评论和观点
1、Robert Schmidt:
"Schmidt says the decanates represent personal attributes "personalty" as opposed to "realty" (as in real estate) which is what the diginities represent. Therefore it is thought that the decans should be a separate report because they have a different function. Schmidt theorizes that these represent personal pronouns such as "I, You and It" and may represent identification in the form of epithet statements such as "John, the one who walks with a limp". The word in greek was "prosopon" which translates as "appearance" or "countenance".
Decan代表个人属性(个性,个人特质)，而Domicile Lord(宫主，入庙守护）、Exaltation Lord（擢升守护）、Conine Lord（界主，也叫term ruler,bound lord,limits)这三类Essential Dignity代表现实、实质、不动产，因此Decan应该与Domicile Lord、Exaltation Lord、Conine Lord分开研究，应该两者是不同系统，具有不同功能。就实际含义而言,Schmidt先生说类似个人称呼、指代、代名词、外貌等等。
就我个人而言，举些例子说明我自己的理解。
A、宫主星，宫内星，界主星的关系是：宫主星为宫内星提供的处置的资源、人物、事件，界主星限制宫内星的运作，类似形容词、副词。
B、以金星的配置为例：
a、金星落金星Decan(Face),土星宫:那个漂亮女孩在和一个年长的人交往
b、金星落金星Decan(Face),木星宫:那个漂亮女孩在和一个高帅富交往
c、金星落金星Decan(Face),火星宫:那个漂亮女孩在和一个渣男交往
d、金星落土星Decan(Face),土星宫:那个长得一般般的女孩在和一个年长的人交往
e、金星落土星Decan(Face),木星宫:那个长得一般般的女孩在和一个高帅富人交往
f、金星落土星Decan(Face),火星星宫:那个长得一般般的女孩在和一个渣男人交往
g、金星落金星Decan(Face),土星界:那个漂亮女孩的婚姻是晚婚(或者婚姻痛苦，无味，白开水)
h、金星落金星Decan(Face),木星界:那个漂亮女孩的婚姻很幸福
i、金星落金星Decan(Face),火星界:那个漂亮女孩的婚姻比较狗血(外遇，婚外恋，三角恋之类的)
j、金星落金星Decan(Face),土星宫，木星界:那个漂亮女孩和一个年长的人结婚，婚姻很幸福
C、Decan就我个人理解应该是那种，没有实质好处的好处，比如你看那个胖子，他其实是拆二代、富二代，或者那个跛子，他很有钱，娶了5房太太，又比如那个漂亮妞没嫁个好男人，家庭出
身不好，可惜了一副好脸蛋等等
D、具体金星Decan和金星Confine的差异，只能我有空去Skyscript等国外论坛问问了
E、以上例子麻烦不要自己吓唬自己，婚姻也不只是金星主导，有很多占星要素主导婚姻，而且上述例子只是就我个人理解运用占星举的例子

"The Manilius decans-based neither on element affinity nor planetary order-but rather on a spinning interior "little" zodiac within the larger (30 degree) signs-of-the-zodiac wheel, is the first recorded decan system (at least which we have any remaining record of), and is similar in many respects to the ancient Egyptian 36 "signs" subdivision of their zodiac. However, as I have mentioned in an earlier post (actually on Astro.com, now that I think of it!) the Manilius system had largely (if not entirely) been forgotten even by 400 AD (Greek/Persian/Roman astrologers of that time using the face-planetary order decan system), and the Manilius decan system has not played any role in practical astrology for the past 1600+ years. However, a couple of modern astrologers have experimented with it, as I have over the past few years, and, I personally have largely come to adopt it (I also sometimes apply the face/planetary order decan system as well)"

Combining them can add a lot of additional insight.

The elemental decans (the ones we are most familiar with in Western astrology), -which I consider to be a valuable delineative model-were introduced and popularized in Modernist astrology by Alan Leo at the beginning of the 20th Century. They were first mentioned in the 11th century by Al-Biruni, as an import to the West from Vedic astrology (in his book Al-Biruni described them as the "Hindu Decans") and in fact our elemental decans are identical with the decans (drekkana) of Vedic astrology.

Until the introduction of elemental decans in the West by Alan Leo, all Western astrology (from at least the time of Ptolemy) used the "Chaldean Planetary Order" (dating from approximately either 700 BC or 400 BC, depending upon the authority consulted) for the decans (the very concept of decans itself deriving from early Egyptian-civilization times) These were (and are, among contemporary traditionalist practitioners) called the "Faces" of the signs, and connect each 10 degree sign area with a planetary influence.

Apparently the use of the "original" decanate system (the Manilius decans) ended in the Greco/Roman tradition certainly by the early 2nd century, being totally replaced by the Chaldean Planetary Order decanate system (the Faces of the signs) There is some anecdotal historical information that the Manilius decan system developed in Alexandria during the time of that city's rise to world prominence, and that it was the original system, taken from the Egyptians (Alexandria is in northern Egypt) and forming the basis of the "sub-Zodiac Wheel" used in the earliest systemization of Greek astrology-however, there is no definite literature or archeological evidence supporting this anecdotal conjecture, so the only thing we know for certain is that the Manilius decanate system is the oldest of the known decan systems, its description and application being in the oldest extant Western astrological book, the "Astronomica" (14 AD) of Manilius...

There are a number of sound, effective approaches to astrological delineation. Some give little or no attention to decans. Others give them substantial attention. In my own experience I have found consideration of the decans to be an important, significant part of delineation, and the additional examination of the implications of the duodenaries (sign 1/12ths) I also have found of importance in obtaining even deeper insights: in this outlook I follow the Greco/Roman tradition (Vedic- astrology also gives much attention to the decans-which them call drekkanas-and even to the duodenaries, which they call dwadashamas) For a long time I used only the elemental decans-I certainly recognize the elemental decan model as both valid and effective (the elemental decan system is the one used in Vedic astrology) However, over the past several years I have found the original decanate system (the Manilius decans) to yield clearer results and often unexpected connections, so, for ME, I have chosen them as preferable (in most cases-not always-but usually) to both the Chaldean Planetary decanate Faces, and to the elemental decan system.

-Jupiter is in the elemental-decan of Scorpio, sign of the ascendant, in which Mars and Venus are both posited = + testimony (Jupiter is also posited in the 3rd Manilius decan of Pisces which is Pisces-another + testimony looked at from Manailius decan rather than elemental decan perspective)

Looking at the reference chart (in whole sign format), I see the fons et origio mali with the conjunction of Mars with Pluto (partile conjunction) and with Uranus (close conjunction) (all 3 planets are in conjunction), this occuring in the 12th house (house of self-undoing), and all in the 2nd Manilius decan of Virgo which is-Taurus (we know about Taurus and physical pleasure) We also find Mars dispositor of Venus (lust over love) in this chart, with Saturn as ultimate dispositor (Mars, Pluto, Uranus disposited by Mercury, Mercury disposited by Saturn-Saturn in its rulership), and the 12th house position of the Mars, Pluto, Uranus conjunction is, of course, in the anciently regarded "House of Saturn".
同样运用Decan技术，分析方法基本类似本命分析
ie, make a midpoint for each seperate planet considered in its sign plus in its decan-sign {Manilius decan} plus in its duodenary-sign plus in its monomoiria-sign; also in making a symbolic midpoint chart by finding the midpoint of the ascending degree from its sign plus its decan-sign plus its duodenary-sign plus its monomoiria-sign, then using the resultant midpoint as the "midpoint ascendant" and erecting the rest of the chart around that!
dr.farr非常喜欢利用Decan技术、12th part技术、Monomoiria技术
I consider the full sign planetary dispositor of the ascendant (or the MC) to exert only a diffuse, general influence (which I do take into account as a "background" coloration), with the planetary ruler (dispositor)of the decanate having a more pointed, specific, particularlizing influence.
他认为本命星曜落点和情况反映总体情况，背景，然后Decan(face)具有更具体、落地的影响，其实我个人觉得就是分析本命星曜落Decan的Mirco Zodiac，微星座所处本命的宫位落点，微星座的宫主，及其与本命星曜的连接等等。
Ascendant @ 3 Capricorn:
-for me, I would say that Capricorn has a diffuse general influence on asc/1st house department of life; 3 Capricorn is in the first Manilius decan of Capricorn, which is the Cancer decan; therefore I would say that Cancer has a specific influence upon her ascendant (thus I would interpret her asc as Cancer with Capricorn undertones)Planetarily, I would consider Saturn (ruler of Capricorn) as having only a mild dispoiting influence on her asc/1st house; I would delineate the Moon (ruler of the Cancer decanate) together with Mars and Venus (both posited in Capricorn in the 1st house by whole sign) as the most significant planetary influences on her asc/1st house.
案例：命度摩羯座，命主土星，但命度落巨蟹座decan，所以他认为巨蟹座、月亮对命宫影响更重要、更强烈。
MC @ 25 Libra
I would consider Libra to exert only a mild, general influence re to the MC; the MC is posited in the third Manilius decan of Libra, which is Sagittarius; therefore I would consider Sagittarius to have a more specific, particular influence upon her MC (and everything represented by that MC) I would also consider the MC to be under the primary influence of Jupiter (ruler of the Sagittarius decan) with a secondary Venus influence (ruler of the full sign, Libra, in which the MC is posited)
案例:天顶天秤座，落射手座Decan，因此他认为射手座、木星对10宫影响是主要的，金星反而对10宫影响是次要的。
The 4th century astrologer Firmicus Maternus is among many who placed great emphasis on their use, saying that a planet in its own decan is as good as in its own sign. Like Manilius before him, he attributed decan rulership to the signs of the zodiac, but most authors, including Ptolemy, gave them to the planets in descending order towards the earth, (i.e., Saturn, Jupiter, Mars, Sun, Venus, Mercury, Moon).
a planet in its own decan is as good as in its own sign，这段意思是星曜落自身Decan，类似于入庙。
四、总结：
我个人比较认可Robert Schmidt的研究结果，dr.farr可以参考，类似12th part的运用，但我目前不太认可a planet in its own decan is as good as in its own sign这句话，除非有足够理论研究(希腊占星、巴比伦占星研究成果)，不过各位占星爱好者可以按照自己喜好选择系统和运用方法，此外日记也只是记录我自己的理解和判断，Decan感觉还有更丰富的内容，依赖深入挖掘了。
五、最后希望不要对照自己盘论命，至少相信好的配置，不要相信不好的配置，占星描述的只是天意的一部分

ie, make a midpoint for each seperate planet considered in its sign plus in its decan-sign {Manilius decan} plus in its duodenary-sign plus in its monomoiria-sign; also in making a symbolic midpoint chart by finding the midpoint of the ascending degree from its sign plus its decan-sign plus its duodenary-sign plus its monomoiria-sign, then using the resultant midpoint as the "midpoint ascendant" and erecting the rest of the chart around that!

I consider the full sign planetary dispositor of the ascendant (or the MC) to exert only a diffuse, general influence (which I do take into account as a "background" coloration), with the planetary ruler (dispositor)of the decanate having a more pointed, specific, particularlizing influence.

-for me, I would say that Capricorn has a diffuse general influence on asc/1st house department of life; 3 Capricorn is in the first Manilius decan of Capricorn, which is the Cancer decan; therefore I would say that Cancer has a specific influence upon her ascendant (thus I would interpret her asc as Cancer with Capricorn undertones)Planetarily, I would consider Saturn (ruler of Capricorn) as having only a mild dispoiting influence on her asc/1st house; I would delineate the Moon (ruler of the Cancer decanate) together with Mars and Venus (both posited in Capricorn in the 1st house by whole sign) as the most significant planetary influences on her asc/1st house.

MC @ 25 Libra
I would consider Libra to exert only a mild, general influence re to the MC; the MC is posited in the third Manilius decan of Libra, which is Sagittarius; therefore I would consider Sagittarius to have a more specific, particular influence upon her MC (and everything represented by that MC) I would also consider the MC to be under the primary influence of Jupiter (ruler of the Sagittarius decan) with a secondary Venus influence (ruler of the full sign, Libra, in which the MC is posited)

The 4th century astrologer Firmicus Maternus is among many who placed great emphasis on their use, saying that a planet in its own decan is as good as in its own sign. Like Manilius before him, he attributed decan rulership to the signs of the zodiac, but most authors, including Ptolemy, gave them to the planets in descending order towards the earth, (i.e., Saturn, Jupiter, Mars, Sun, Venus, Mercury, Moon).

四、总结：
我个人比较认可Robert Schmidt的研究结果，dr.farr可以参考，类似12th part的运用，但我目前不太认可a planet in its own decan is as good as in its own sign这句话，除非有足够理论研究(希腊占星、巴比伦占星研究成果)，不过各位占星爱好者可以按照自己喜好选择系统和运用方法，此外日记也只是记录我自己的理解和判断，Decan感觉还有更丰富的内容，依赖深入挖掘了。
五、最后希望不要对照自己盘论命，至少相信好的配置，不要相信不好的配置，占星描述的只是天意的一部分
