笔记
<Tuesdays with Morrie>
1. ...devote yourself to creating something that gives you purpose and meaning.
2. I convinced myself that my needs were realistic, my greed inconsequential compared to theirs.
This was a smokescreen. Morrie made that obvious.
"Mitch, if you're trying to show off for people at the top, forget it. They will look down at you anyhow. And if you're trying to show off for people at the bottom, forget it. They will only envy you. Status will get you nowhere. Only an open heart will allow you to float eqally between everyone.
3. "... but God makes him suffer. To test his faith"
"I remember"
Take away everything he has, his house, his money, his family...
"His health." Makes him sick. "To test his faith." Right. To test his faith. So, I'm wondering...
"What are you wondering?"
What you think about that?
Morrie coughs violently. His hands quiver as he drops them by his side.
"I think," he says, smiling, "God overdid it."
4. "Still," he said, "there are a few rules I know to be true about love and marriage: if you don't respect the other person, you're gonna have a lot of trouble. If you don't know how to compromise, you're gonna have a lot of trouble. If you can't talk openly about what goes on between you, you're gonna have a lot of trouble. And if you don't have a common set of values in life, you're gonna have a lot of trouble. You values must be alike."
5. ..."Oh, if I were young again". .."you know what that reflects? Unsatisfied lives. Unfulfilled lives. Lives that haven't found meaning. Because if you've found meaning in your life, you don't want to go back. You want to go forward. You want to see more, do more. You can't wait until sixty-five.
"
