In this past century, the most important parts of education are reading, writing, and maths. Given the importance of the computer, some suggest children can benefit if educators add a fourth skill to the list: computer skills. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
there has been much discussion about whether educations could add computer skills into student's curriculum and consider it as important as reading, writing and maths. personally, i believe it is not necessary.
admittedly, learning computer skills is vital in the 21th century. computing has dramatically shifted our learning ways of thinking and problem solving skills. for instance, the most common way of study or work is to elaborate ideas in a presentation, which requires skills like how to use office softwares, how to find supporting information on the internet via computer skills is to surf the internet. the most convenient and cost-efficient method to expand one's horizon is to explore the world on the internet.
although learning computer skills is important in the 21th century, to add it in children's curriculum is not necessary. first of all, there are lots of knowledge that that children need to learn in the school. children need to focus on basic knowledge learning, such as reading, writing, maths, literature and language etc. besides studying they also need time to play out after school. secondly, a lot of kids seem to lack self-discipline. they are easily addicted to computer games or receive negative information if they start to use computers when they are little kids. it is not easier for them to recognize what is right and wrong. even adults sometimes cannot resist the temptation of computer. additionally, to build a computer room costs millions in a school, which means it is not easy to popularize computers in every school.
to conclude, several factors show that children is not necessary to learn computer skills in the school. computer skills can be learn by themselves after graduation.
