第一章 任务-研究日本

从来没有一个国家像日本这样，性格中充满这矛盾。左手【菊】，右手【刀】。好战又温和，尚武又美好，傲慢又礼貌，僵硬又灵活。。。。。。截然相反的特性毫无违和感地呈现在同一个民族身上，那些美国看起来不可思议的事情，在日本人心里似乎是天经地义。

第二章 战争中的日本人

有序，是日本人在生活中的主要游戏规则，天皇，恰好是这种有序模式的标志性的存在。无条件和无限制地效忠天皇，是所有日本军人的信条。而日本狂热的精神信仰--【精神胜于物质的力量】，叫嚣精神最终必将战胜物质。两者使得日本军人无比虔诚地认为【战斗至死才够得上荣誉】。

第三章 各守本位

与美国追求自由和平等不同，日本追求的是等级和秩序，【各守其位】恰好正式对这种追求的最佳诠释。

德川幕府,统治长达两百多年（1603-1868年），19世纪后半夜崩溃。其等级为：天皇+世袭贵族（公卿）-->将军（大元帅）-->大名-->武士--农民--工人--商人--贱民（秽多--清道夫，掩埋死囚者，剥去死兽皮者等)。

在日本，长辈，男性，年长者的特权死巨大的。

日本等级管制中，拥有印度式登记中所不具备的灵活性。等级的变通方式有两种，一种为【商人和富人的子女和武士阶层通婚，自己也变成绅士】。另一种是【过继和收养】，商人和富人让儿子过继给武士当养子，日本人不太去收养子，更多地为女儿赘胥，入赘的女婿成为【婿养子】。

在日本如果某种侵犯行为被视作逾越了现有的行为规范，将会被纠正，这是切切实实的保证。人们认可这种规范，相信只有循规蹈矩，才有安全感，只有在遵守中，而不是去试图反抗或修改，才能显示出勇气和美德。将自己的行为置于明确的界限，在他们眼中，就是一个可掌控、可信赖的模式。它的规定 并不像摩西十诫那些抽象的道德原则，而是极为具体的规定：这种场合应该如何，那种场合应该如何，武士该如何，平民又该如何，兄长在如何，幼弟又该如何，凡此等等。

"You shall not covet your neighbor s house; you shall not covet your neighbor s wife, or his manservant, or his maidservant, or his ox, or his ass, or anything that is your neighbor s." (第十条：不可贪恋人的房屋；也不可贪恋人的妻子、仆婢、牛驴，并他一切所有的)
