一年总销量能覆盖整段长城八次的神奇榛子酱!
Nutella, invented and manufactured by the Italian company Ferrero, refers to a brand name of a hazelnut-based sweet spread. The correct pronunciation of this phenomenon cream should be [nuˈtɛlla](努特拉)instead of [nʌˈtɛlə](娜特拉). Ferrero now purchases about 25% of world’s hazelnut supplies, beating any other single buyer around the world.Roughly estimated, Italians consume at least 60 million jars of Nutella each year, not to mention the significant consumption of this addictive hazelnut cream in the other 75 countries.
Legend has been told that the amount of Nutella produced in a year weighs the same as the Empire State building (before it was destroyed in 9/11). There are also figures indicating that, if taking all of the jars of this hazelnut spread sold in a year (and a looooot of brushes, obviously), one can cover the Great Wall eight times!

History:
始于贫穷,火于创新,忠于个性。
"It began as a story of poverty." --- Economic Development Minister of Italy.
Originally, the spread was invented as an ingenious solution to the lack of cocoa supplies after the World War II. There was already a kind of chocolate cream made with cocoa and chopped hazelnuts in the region called the “gianduja”.
According to the older recipe, gianduja wascomposed ofapproximately20% almondorhazelnutpasteandup to 80% chocolate. However, chocolate was too rare and expensive for the common people at the time, whereas hazelnuts were so abundant in Piedmont that peasants did not even know what to do with them.So Pietro Ferrero, a smart pastry maker in Piedmont, came up with the idea of adding more readily available hazelnuts to it to make the cream go further. At the event of a famous local carnival, he shaped it into a loaf wrapped in foil that could be sliced and served on bread, and named it “giandujot”.On May 14th 1946, the Ferrero Company was officially founded.

“Supercrema” --- Fatherof Nutella
In 1949, Ferrero altered its formula and started to sell a more creamy version under the name of “Supercrema” --- the precursor to Nutella. Pietro Ferreo’s son, Michele replaced him after his death on March 2, 1949. It is noteworthy that “ella” is an affectionate suffix related to many delicious Italian foods like caramella or mozarella. In 1964, to successfully market it across Europe, Michele Ferrero further modified the recipe and transformed it into “Nutella”. The product reached Germany and was an immediate success, the popularity of which spread into France, and then other countries in Europe as well.

Worldwide Fanaticism:

--- 全世界圈粉无数,迷弟迷妹甚至为它创办了节日!
American bloggers,Sara Rossoand Michelle Fabiodecided to initiate the World Nutella Day in praise of this legendary hazelnut spread. A domain called NutellaDay.comwas created to organize the event, which became an interactive platform for global Nutella fans to share the innovative ideas and organise celebration events. Images of these celebrations are available via the event's official Facebook and Twitter accounts, as well as a Pinterest tag.
制造混乱
--- 就是为了那一口香甜的酱
On January 25th. 2018, massive riots occurred in the French supermarket chains Intermarché, owing to a sale they ran on Nutella. Since the price of Nutella was slashed by 70% to 1.41 euros only, thousands of Nutella fans were tempted and rushed into the outlets, only to grab as many jars as possible. As a result, it led to numerous brawls and fights in the supermarkets just to buy Nutella. In the end, the local Police force had to intervene to break up the fighting crowds.

Nutella is certainly not the healthiest spread on earth. It should be borne in mind that Ferrero adopts quite a canny strategy to market this product, which only advertises the “natural” milk and hazelnut ingredients while not acknowledging that almost 50% of Nutella is sugar. What is more noticeable is the fact that half of its calories come from fats, rendering it more a health killer for people with metabolic disorders such as obesity or diabetes.

Does it Cause Cancer?
听说你,可能致癌,折我阳寿?
Ferrero has a secret recipe, carefully preserved in his official factory, just like what Coca-Cola does. Back in 1945, the ingredient cocoa butter was replaced by some unclear “vegetable oils” and since then became one of the company’s best kept secrets. But about 60 years later, it has been exposed that the “mysterious oils” are in fact just palm oils, which help assure the smoothness and long-life of the spread.
However, European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) published a report in 2017, claiming that a cancer-causing substance known as GE can be produced when varieties of vegetable oils are heated above 200 degree celsius. Instantly followed by the findings, many large chain retailers and bakeries in Italy like Coop or Barilla began to eliminate the use of palm oil in their products. Contrastingly, Ferrero has taken an entirely opposing stance. Despite the fact that Nutella’s sales had indeed fluctuated after the EFSA’s warnings, the purchasing manager of Ferrero told the public that “Making Nutella without palm oil would produce an inferior substitute for the real product, it would be a step backward.” The company also insists that the GE level in Nutella is simply too low to be even traced. There are financial considerations behind the move as well, since it would at least cost the company $8-22 million annually if switching to any alternative vegetable oil.
“为了我们人民的健康和星球的和谐,我们必须停止食用能多益酱。” ---法国生物部长如是说
In fact, the French Ecology Minister, Ségolène Royalonce warned public that the Italian spread was unsafe for the health of her citizens and for the good of the planet.
“We have to stop eating Nutella, ”she said on TV.
只叹我,深情不改,甘之如饴。
But any way, haters gonna hate, and lovers just gonna break a leg for it.
