"For much of her life, Louise Bourgeois lived close to the edge. A brilliant intellect and vast artistic gifts inhabited the same body as a medley of ungovernable emotions, a strong self-destructive urge conspicuous among them. Yet she never had to be institutionalized like Artaud and didn't manage to kill herself like Kane; Louise knew how to save herself. Art is a guarantee of sanity. This was her credo, her unwavering faith, and although it doesn't always turn out to be true for artists, for her it did."
記得在Cambridge的時候看到她的作品的時候能聽到一種塑料包裝紙要破碎的聲音,也讓我意識到我對所有帶來掙扎的事情還不能夠像海綿一樣吸進自己的身體里。但也是在看她的各種作品的那段時間慢慢懂得了怎麼和自己的art相處。
Things that inhabit my body:
passion for describing what cannot yet be put into words
ungovernable emotions (perfectly governable in the presence of others)
need for unsolvable questions, metaphors that make those questions appear less unsolvable
contempt for linearity
thoughts that can never be realized
desire for transformations, self-transformations, sometimes quite close to self-destruction
desire to see how the palpable challenges the abstract or vice versa
