漫威DC的差距

Mentioning the word comic-based movies, I bet the first thing come out in audience’s head is Marvel. It seems that the other magnate in comics and movies industry DC is much less successful than Marvel. Even a plenty of people still think that Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman are Marvel characters. Why is that?

In 1939, the Timely comics appeared in the public, which was the predecessor of Marvel. It changed its name to Marvel in 1961. DC comics was established in 1934, 5 years earlier than Marvel. Also, the first few characters of DC such as the Batman and the Superman are more welcomed than the Marvel characters. So why Marvel is a lot more successful now? The first reason is the time they enter the Hollywood market. Thanks to Disney, after they purchased Marvel, they wisely considered comic characters as a good movie material. They began to build the Marvel universe, started with the Iron man. Now it is really successful.

However, DC is not so lucky. After being purchased by Warner, they didn’t fully appreciate the value of it, although the Batman: dark knight trilogy’s box office was pretty nice, the positive circumstance did not continue. And now they began to regret, so they made Batman V Superman and justice league and so on. But the result is not ideal. They can’t catch up the steps of Marvel.

Another reason is the keynotes of Marvel and DC are totally different. Marvel movies and comics are basically exciting fightings, heroes who often save the entire earth and even the universe. However, in DC, there are more discussions on humanity. For example, the joker. The classical villain in the story of Batman. He is not only a nut. He is a crime genius. He is also in conflict. He has many chances to kill the Batman, but he didn’t. Because he knows that the bat is the only one he can call a rival. Batman wants to save joker from the insanity and disordering, and the joker wants to save the bat from endless stress, pain and darkness. Another example: the Superman. Most of us think Superman’s characteristic is very similar to captain America. Both of them are the symbol of supreme justice. But no. Captain America is a man, but Superman is an alien. Also he has the power to erase the entire human race. So people respect him, but also afraid of him. In the movie BvS, there’s a discussion about whether there must be a Superman. And Superman himself, he is in conflicts, he does not know what he is going to be, a man, or a god. As for CA, he can never become a threat. I mean, he will not become a threat himself, unless the Shield regards him as one. Most people like the easier story, exciting space battles, cool heroes, they don’t wanna consider more about humanity. That’s why Marvel is a more popular choice.
