之前写过几篇关于美国的乐队，但是都是一些年轻的乐队，我一直想写一篇关于美国的老牌劲旅的乐队，找来找去一直都没有找到太合适的乐队，就在前几天无意中看到了美国的Flesh Parade乐队之后我终于知道要写一支什么样子的美国乐队了，那就是来自美国新奥尔良的死亡金属 / 碾核Flesh Parade乐队，这支乐队成立于1990年贝斯手Tony，鼓手Todd，吉他手Rene，主唱Jason的阵容，在乐队1991年至1994年分别发行了“Meathook”，“Hate Life”，“Worthless”，“Good Stuff”四张demo之后Flesh Parade乐队在美国的著名Relapse Records标签一张名为“Solid: Strip Mining the Underground Since 1990”的精选专辑，不过这张精选专辑只有一首歌曲“Monsieur Lebeaux”，在这张精选专辑发行完之后在1998年又分别发行了一张EP专辑“Kill Whitey”和一张精选专辑“Kill Whitey”这张精选专辑只是把上一张EP专辑里面的五首歌再加上之前发表七首歌曲重新发表，这两张专辑同样是在Relapse Records发行，2010年乐队的第一张正式专辑“Dirty Sweet”在美国的Mainstay Recordings标签发行（这家标签成立于2004年，只发行过Flesh Parade乐队的这张专辑，再无其他作品发行，这家标签还签约了一支美国的死亡金属 / 碾核风格的Bung乐队，只是在2001年发行了一张demo就解散了），这是一张标准的老式碾核加上死亡金属风格的专辑，从中可以听到死亡金属式的riff和碾核的疯狂，两者结合的非常完美，听完这张专辑让你感到浑身通畅非常的舒服，从中可以听到很多Napalm Death乐队的影子，在发行完这张正式专辑之后乐队在2016年发行了一张现场专辑“Live at Netherlands Deathfest (2016)”以数字版形式发行，这张现场专辑是乐队在2016年参加荷兰的音乐节Deathfest录制的，在此之后乐队在无新作发布，就在昨天我也收到了Flesh Parade乐队吉他手Rene的回信，得到了很多关于乐队不鲜为人知的故事，接下来大家通过这篇文章一起来了解一下这支美国的老牌劲旅乐队吧。（V: 代表笔者 R：代表Rene）

Not sure I fully understand this question but Flesh Parade was formed in 1990 by the original members of the band. (Blake Balu - vocals, Duane Marcel - guitar, Joe Militello - guitar, C.J. Pierce - bass, Todd Capiton - drums) Todd is the only original member to this day. After the first demo “Meathook" was released in 1991, the band disbanded for a short period. Todd and Joe decided to start playing again and writing new material. Ben Falgoust from Soilent Green practiced with them on vocals for a short period of time but did not remain in the band. This was before he ever joined Soilent Green during his Paralysis days. Another local band, "Severance” which was close friends with F.P. also disbanded around the same time.

Severance guitarist, René Perez & vocalist, Jason Pilgrim began writing their own music on a 4-track cassette recorder with a drum machine. When they got together with Joe & Todd to hang out they played their demos for them and they loved it. This was the beginning formation of the F.P. line-up fans became to know. This line-up went without a bassist for some time but recorded the demo, “Hate Life” in 1992 with guitarist René Perez handling bass duties. During this time a few other bass players had come and gone. In 1993, the “Worthless” demo was recorded. Shortly after Joe Militello left the band. In 1994, the “Good Stuff” demo was recorded for Dwell Records with new bassist, “Shane Lechler” as a follow up to the Worthless demo. Dwell Records wanted to see if we could continue writing more of the same material they heard on the “Worthless" demo. Dwell Records ended up going under and never continued talks with F.P. The band continued playing shows and promoting the demos they recorded until Pellet from Relapse Records reached out to us. He was an avid tape trader and knew some people in New Orleans. They sent him a mix tape with tons of great Nola bands and we were also on it. This is how we got on the Relapse roster in the late 90’s and released the Kill Whitey 7” EP and then Kill Whitey CD compilation.

That is correct as stated in my answers above. Flesh Parade continued to play until 2000. At this time, Shane Lechler joined the military and left the band. Todd and Rene began families, got married and the band went on hold indefinitely. In 2005, Rene Perez bought a house and set up a jam room for the Flesh Parade to begin working on new music again. The band began filming this reunion for the Grind Docs videos found on YouTube. This continued for a few months until Hurricane Katrina hit in August 2005 and displaced the band for a couple of years. During this time longtime vocalist, Jason Pilgrim decided to exit the band due to lack of time and personal reasons. In 2007, Todd & René had to decide if they wanted to attempt replacing Jason as well as finding a new bassist. Some very tough shoes to fill. We began auditioning new vocalist in July 2007. Although we entertained the thought of choosing other vocalists, the first one we auditioned stood out most to guitarist Rene Perez, Scott Leger. Scott knew the vocal patterns right out of the gate and sounded the closest to Pilgrim. Once Scott was officially onboard we began working toward Dirty Sweet and our first show in 8 years, Maryland Deathfest VI.

Since 2008 the band has played many festivals around the country and world. We’ve played most of the MDF festivals held around the US and Netherlands Deathfest in 2016.In the past the band has played Milwaukee Metalfest, November to Dismember, Central Illinois Metalfest, etc.

There wasn’t a song but an actual bass drum head that had a lady in the same position as the silhouette of the girl on the Dirty Sweet cover. Our drummer Todd was given this drumhead by an older guy and we all thought it was funny so he played with it on his kit for years before FP was ever known. We named the album off that bass drum head. We also decided to give the album an 80’s glam metal theme somewhat in the vein of Motley Cure’s “Girls, Girls, Girls” album.

Which music festivals or live performances impressed you, can you tell me the names of these music festivals or live performances?

My goodness, all of them! They were all great experiences where we got to meet our metal heroes and see them play as well as discover tons of sick new music!

Jason Pilgrim & Rene Perez are the main writers for Flesh Parade. Todd Capiton always has great ideas to throw in as well.

I see that your band's music theme is internal war. Why did you choose this theme?

This would be a question for Jason as he has written most of the lyrics. Scott has also written lyrics that continue this theme. I think because it’s real shit everyone can relate with. Sometimes when shit is bad and you hear an intense song that echoes the way you are feeling at that time is very cathartic and in some ways makes people feel better because they know they’re not alone in feeling this way. These songs can help with a way to heal and overcome.

I think it means everyone has it. It’s just how we all deal with it in our own ways.

The name Flesh Parade actually came from a lyric in a Sonic Youth song. A friend of the band mentioned it and it stuck.
