高曰:“陛下到底年轻,事实上头上长角、尾巴短又没鬃毛的马是大有马在的,头上没角、尾巴长而有鬃毛的鹿也是大有鹿在的。我们以为马和鹿的本质是二元对立的,其实应该是一条光谱才对。何况人类殖民者没有发明这些词以前,鹿知道自己是鹿吗?马知道自己是马吗?马和鹿并不曾像人类这样粗暴地把自己对立起来,由此可见,鹿和马都不过是社会建构罢了。况且,陛下没有试过,焉知此马不能拉车?此马虽然出生时被错归为鹿,其实是自我认同为马的,且本性最喜拉车,父母屡次欲易其性而不得,这更加说明了它本是马,而不是鹿,因为怎么会有鹿宁可冒着被别鹿欺负的危险也要拉车呢?”
