说谎者的丑陋嘴脸 - 波兰传统死亡金属Mendax乐队专访

如果问你波兰最著名的死亡金属是那支乐队你第一个会想到谁？Vader？的确说到波兰的死亡金属，大家首先会想到的就是Vader，其实在波兰除了Vader乐队以外还有很多不错的乐队比如1988年组建，2004年重组的老式死亡金属Aggressor乐队，2006年组建的带有传统死亡金属 / 碾核的Abnormal Sickness乐队，传统死亡金属Bottlekopf乐队，还有像摇滚味道浓重的碾核乐队C-4，传统死亡金属Calm Hatchery乐队，这支乐队的吉他手曾今参与过波兰的另外一支很著名的乐队Dead Infection，除了乐队波兰还拥有世界闻名的标签Selfmadegod Records，这家标签曾今为很多著名的乐队发行过专辑，比如我之前写过的比利时的Agathocles乐队，德国的Terrorazor乐队，波兰的Nuclear Holocaust乐队，美国的Pyrrhon乐队等等都在这家标签发行过专辑，说怎么多其实大家也能猜到了我今天要介绍的是一支来自波兰的死亡金属乐队，其实在之前已经写过几篇关于波兰死亡金属乐队的文章了，这次介绍的是来自波兰的Mendax乐队，这支乐队是2015年组建的，但是在今年才刚刚发行了第一张同名EP专辑，我也在第一时间听到了这张EP专辑，当你打开播放器听到了他们的第一首歌的时候，你就会发现你已经深深的被这支乐队的作品吸引住了，非常优秀的一支传统死亡金属味道的专辑，这是一张使用了大量缓慢节奏和即兴的Riff再加上一些thrash metal元素的专辑，野兽一般的主唱让整张专辑锦上添花，当你听到Mendax乐队会让你想起Vader，Six Feet Under,Autopsy等等乐队，可能在当今Slam，deathcore风格非常流行的时代下Mendax乐队可能并不能让很多歌迷引起对他们的关注，但是如果你喜欢80 - 90年代那个时候的死亡金属的话，那么Mendax乐队的这张同名专辑会让你兴奋不已，就在Mendax乐队发行了这张EP的同时我也第一时间联系到了Mendax乐队的创始人之一的乐队主唱Piotr Szwed进行了一次简单的访谈，通过Piotr Szwed我也了解到了更多关于Mendax乐队一些信息，那么接下来就通过这篇文章大家一起熟悉一下这支并不是很多人了解的乐队吧！（V：代表笔者 P：代表Piotr Szwed）

注：这里说明一点，因为我个人的缘故当时并没有看到Piotr Szwed的名字所以导致在一个问题上面出现了错误，在这专访文章里面问题不会更改，但是我在这里标注说明一下！

If you asked you which band is the most famous death metal in Poland, who would you think of first? Vader? When it comes to Polish death metal, the first thing you will think of is Vader. In fact, there are many good bands in Poland besides Vader. For example, the old death metal Aggressor was formed in 1988 and reorganized in 2004. The traditional death metal / grind nuclear Abnormal Sickness band, the traditional death metal Bottlekopf band, as well as the rock-like strong grind nuclear band C-4, the traditional death metal Calm Hatchery band, the guitarist of this band has participated in Polish Another very famous band Dead Infection, in addition to the band Poland also owns the world-famous label Selfmadegod Records. This label has released albums for many famous bands, such as the Agathocles band in Belgium and Terrorazor in Germany. A traditional death metal album, this is an album that uses a lot of slow rhythm and improvisational Riff plus some thrash metal elements. The beast-like lead singer makes the whole album icing on the cake. When you hear Mendax, it will make you Think of Vader, Six Feet Under, Autopsy and other bands, maybe in today's era when Slam and deathcore styles are very popular, Mendax may not be able to attract many fans to their attention, but if you like the deaths in the 80s and 90s In terms of metal, then Mendax’s album of the same name will make you very excited. Just as Mendax released this EP, I also contacted Piotr Szwed, one of the founders of Mendax, the lead singer of the band. In a simple interview, I also learned more about Mendax through Piotr Szwed, so let’s use this article to familiarize everyone with this band that not many people know about! Hey man! Glad to meet you too! My name is Piotr Szwed,and I was the one to found Mendax back in 2015, along with our ex- bassist Szymon Wierzyk.

The mendax band was founded in 2015, but why did the band release its first ep album this year? What have the band been doing these years? Create songs, rehearse, perform?

P: Mendax大约在16岁时就开始了。我想组建一支死亡金属乐队，但我对如此沉重的音乐并不真正感兴趣……因此MENDAX吸引了很多人，这使我成为了唯一的原创成员。几年前，当我遇到Dawid（现任吉他手）和Antek（前吉他手）时，Mendax成为一支严肃的乐队。我们在一起为首张EP创作了音乐。

Mendax started back when we was around 16 years old. I wanted to create a death metal band, but my pears weren't really interested in music this heavy... So MENDAX had a lot of people coming through, and it ended up me being the only original member. Mendax became a serious band few years ago, when I met Dawid (our current guitarist), and Antek (ex- guitarist). Together we created music for our debut EP.

Are the songs of your band’s ep album created by all band members? Can you tell me what the creation process of all songs looks like?

Antek created first two songs. Dawid wrote "Burial Ground", and "In Love with Death", and helped me with "When Godot Arrives". I wrote "Lust of Blood" with some help from Dawid and Adam Wojciechowski (ex-bassist). Usually just one person is involved in writting process, and then we discuss either we change something, or not. At the end, I write the lyrics for all the tracks.

There are four people in the photo of your band members, but there are only two members, Adam Przybylak and drummer Tobiasz Konieczny in the band member list. Why don't the other two members appear in the member list? Can you introduce these two mysterious members?

We didn't know about our metallum page until today haha. I guess we have to update that! The other two members are Dawid Kubski (the one one the right), and me on the front. Dawid used to play in HATRIX (thrash metal band before), and I play in SCUMEATER, and MORDHELL to this day.

V: 你的乐队的音乐主题是什么？

What is the musical theme of your band?

We play death metal with many slow paced riffs. Sometimes we like to add some thrash metal to it.

Your band’s logo is very special. Which designer designed the logo for you? Your band’s ep album cover is also very different. I didn’t understand what it meant. Is the artwork for this album designed for you by the same designer or by another designer? What is the meaning of the artwork on this album?

P: 我是设计徽标和艺术品的人，所以谢谢哈哈！我们的专辑封面本来应该很抽象，但是却有其含义。它涉及隐藏在我们意识多层之下的暗物质。红色部分代表我们自身的“外部”，而黑色部分代表内部的事物。所谓物质，是指我们通过多年的背叛和错误收集到的许多东西，例如愤怒或仇恨。我们所有人

I was the one to design our logo, and artwork, so thanks haha! Our album cover was supposed to be quite abstract, but it has its meaning. Its about the dark matter hidden beneath many layers of our conscioussness. The red part is representing the "outside" of our selfes, while black is whats inside. And by matter I mean many things such as anger, or hate we collected through years of betrayals and mistakes. All of us.

I only heard your ep album today. When I heard the music on your bandcamp website, I was deeply attracted by your work. The neat guitar riff, the crazy drums, the beast-like lead singer , Which constitutes your ep album, which is very characteristic of your own Poland. Do you have any thoughts on your work?

We created something, that was inside us for many years now. We fully dedicated to it, and its one of our proudest achievements.

Your band’s ep album is now only available in digital format? Are there any tags that you want to release the CD, tape or other version of this ep album for you? Or is this ep album your own CD, tape or other version?

It would be great to release it in other format, than just digital. For now we are contacting some labels. If no one will appear, then we may do it ourselfes, but we will see in the nearest future.

The recording quality of your album is very good. Every detail and every instrument can be heard clearly. In which studio was this album recorded? What does the recording process look like?

Everything you hear was recorder either at Dawids house, or at our rehearsal room haha. First we recorded guitars, then Cegła (our friend) helped us with drum recording. Then again guitars and bass, and at the and I recorded vocals. We had to put some extra work on the drums though, because we used too little microphones for them. The whole mastering and mixing process was Dawids work. I am happy to hear, that you like what he did haha.

Are there any good bands in Poland? Many Polish bands in China are also famous and have a lot of fans. Can you introduce a few Polish bands you like?

We have many great bands in here. From my favourites, I would recommend INTERCEPTOR, MIND ENFORCER, NIGHT LORD, IMPURE DECLARATION, SACROFUCK, MOLOCH LETALIS, and SELFHARMONY.

V: 您从几岁开始接触死亡金属音乐？第一个死亡金属乐队是哪个乐队？哪些乐队影响了您？当您初次学习演奏乐器时，年龄是多少岁？

At what age did you first come into contact with death metal music? Which band was the first death metal band? Which bands have influenced you and how old was it when you first learned to play an instrument?

Firt death metal band I ever heard was VADER, and it was around 7 years ago. It was the most extreme band for me at the time, but then I discovered AUTOPSY, and to this day they are one of my biggest inspirations. I love Chris Reiferts sick vocals! I just started learning the guitar haha. I do vocals for about 6-7 years now. Dawid shreds guitar for 9 years, and Adam plays bass for about 6 years now. Tobiasz started 8 years ago, and is still improving to this day!

V: 波兰的死亡金属气氛如何？许多人喜欢死亡金属音乐吗？您所在地区是否有自己的音乐节？您的乐队参加过任何音乐节或现场表演吗？

What is the atmosphere of death metal in Poland, do many people like death metal music? Is there any music festival of its own in your local area? Has your band participated in any music festivals or live performances?

We played our first concert in 2016, and then fell in a come until our concert 3 weeks ahead heh. We want to start touring more, but we will see. Death metal isn't really that popular in Poznań. Its not that bad in other cities, but we are far less active than our southern neighbours.
