《pulling flavor from the dirt》，其实有一个词可以形容这种情况——风土。它描述了葡萄生长的环境背景——地形、气候和土壤赋予葡萄酒的特征。一个地方的微妙表达，体现在柔和的色彩和品味等特征上，揭示了事物之间微妙的联系，而且不可能以绝对的确定性来绘制这些关系。
《pulling flavor from the dirt》打破了历史上被动、单一的视角。胡桃木结构的多个有利位置将空间以及房间外和房间内的东西分隔开，强调了多个视角和一种积极的观感。这个空间最终构建的“现实”是独一无二的，它提醒我们，我们的个人观点和经历是如何构建、对抗和塑造我们认为我们知道的东西的。当你开始想象这个世界和它的所有内容，包括我们，作为“物质” ，分类相互渗透，试图把它们中的任何一个定义为明显的单一似乎是荒谬的。我自己的实践通过对被定义的故意抵制，来定义自己。

“我在迈阿密小哈瓦那的一所房子里长大。我们家墙上几乎所有的照片都褪成了深褐色，周围地区的面包店和理发店的窗户上贴着的新数码照片也褪成了青绿色。不管是橙色还是蓝色，你知道你看到的这张照片，以不切实际的方式描绘了现实。透过乌贼墨，你的脑海中闪现出扎染的背心和蜘蛛百合的大绿叶，然后又回到乌贼墨。你看着一个现实，脑子里想着另一个现实。我在这儿长大的时候，邻居的房子被漆成了粉红色。所以我们就叫它粉红房子。现在也是。已经不是粉红色了。我不能完全肯定它现在是什么颜色，虽然我想说它是某种淡绿色，但可能是黄色。阳光，风，慢慢滴落的水，习惯性的行为，甚至思想和想法都会随着时间不知不觉地改变事物，直到它们突然与你记忆中的不同。”
