The Morning Briefing: Monday, January 11
The Two-Minute Briefing
Hello, I’m Danny Boyle with the briefing from the Telegraph.
It’s Monday, January 11th, and lockdown might get tougher. So Coronavirus restrictions could soon become tighter. As concerning government the latest lockdown isn’t being followed strictly enough, what could change then? Well, two main things are under the discussion: Possible rules banning people from different households who aren’t in a support bubble(“互助泡泡”)from exercising together, and potential stricter mask wearing that could see face coverings mandatary in offices and busy outdoor areas like supermarket queues. Boris Johnson met his cabinet colleagues last night to discuss if the lockdown’s working. England’s chief medical officer Professor Chris Whitty is doing a series of interviews today. He said the next few weeks could be the worst of the pandemic so far for the NHS. You can follow all the updates in our live blog.
Some good COVID news: Vaccination’s being ramped up. Seven new mass injection centers are opening. They’re able to deliver thousands of jabs every week. The Health Secretary Matt Hancock’s insisted every adult will be offered vaccine by the autumn. We’ve got the priority list for the Oxford and Pfizer(辉瑞)vaccines.
Now it’s just nine days until Joe Biden’s inaugurated as US president, but the heat’s been turned up on efforts to remove Donald Trump from the office before then. US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said she will launch impeachment(弹劾)proceedings in the next 24 hours. We’ve rounded up how the possible options for removing Trump from the White House work.
And with schools closed, Joe Wicks returns today with his online PE lessons he started on YouTube last March and sent him from Instagram star to National Treasure, and relaunching them is bittersweet(苦乐参半). Joe’s done an interview with us on how he really didnt’ want to is going to keep going throughout lockdown.
I can also recommend two other articles too: A guide to perfecting the art of living through a crisis, and a review of the weekend’s livestream concert to remember David Bowie.
Alright, that’s the latest from Telegraph. Chris’ll have your second briefing of the day this evening.
