这次为大家介绍一支来自美国加州的死亡金属Marrow乐队，2018年成立（但是在网上我看到早在2008年乐队就已经发行了一些作品）的Marrow一开始由鼓手Brandon Northop，吉他手Stephen Edwards，歌手Justin Reyes组建，在组建的第二年乐队发行了第一张EP专辑“Forced Open”这是一张传统死亡金属专辑，编排很复杂，变化多端，很沉重而且歌手在演唱方面也是非常的出色，如同困兽出笼一般的粗野，鼓手在也是非常讲究的爆炸性速度贯穿整张专辑，在前不久我联系到了乐队的歌手Justin Reyes进行了一次简短的采访，下面就跟随Justin Reyes一起进入这支年轻乐队的世界吧（M: 代表笔者 J: 代表Justin Reyes）

This time, I'd like to introduce you to a death metal March band from California, USA, which was founded in 2018 (but I saw on the Internet that the band had released some works as early as 2008). The band was first set up by drummer Brandon Northop, guitarist Stephen Edwards and singer Justin Reyes. In the second year of its establishment, the band released its first EP album "forced" "Open" this is a traditional death metal album. The arrangement is very complex, changeable and heavy. The singer is also very excellent in singing. He is as rude as a trapped animal. The drummer is also very particular about the explosive speed throughout the whole album. Not long ago, I contacted the singer Justin Reyes of the band for a short interview. Hello, Justin. Nice to meet you and thank you for your willingness to participate in this interview. When was your band founded? Who proposed to form the Marrow band?

Marrow started sometime in 2018. Brandon Northop (drummer), Stephen Edwards (guitarist), and I (Justin Reyes, vocals) had played together in a previous metal band when we were in high school. We came together in 2018 wanting to write heavy music again. Brandon knew of Attis through social media and had asked him to play bass for us.

You are all original members of the band. I think you can better create the works of the band. How do you usually create songs?

Brandon, Stephen, and I are the three original members. Attis left the band shortly after the release of “Forced Open”. Eddie then joined, but only for a few months in 2019. We now have Justin Brown on bass, making this the strongest Marrow line up yet. When it comes to writing songs, we usually just jam ideas out in Brandon’s garage. One of us is usually recording a rough audio file through their phone and we’ll piece out the structure of a song from there.

M: Death, Gore, Torture, Horror这些是你乐队的音乐主题。这些主题与死亡金属的风格是一致的。你喜欢看恐怖片吗？

Death, Gore, Torture, Horror These are the music themes of your band. These themes are in line with the style of death metal. Do you like to watch some horror movies?

We love horror movies. My personal favorites are Hellraiser and Sinister.

M: 你乐队的作品都有歌词，你写吗？那么这些歌词的灵感是什么呢？

Your band's works all have lyrics, so do you write them? So what's the inspiration for these lyrics?

Yes, I write all the lyrics. My goal for writing Marrow lyrics is to talk about real life horrors. I like to get in the mindset of it by doing tons of research late at night. For example, when it came to writing “Forced Open,” I spent hours on investigating home invasion cases. With “Malpractice,” I read many articles about doctors who intentionally screwed over patients to make a profit out of them.

M: 你的作品在哪里录制？工作室还是家里？哪位录音师为你混音了这些歌？

Where are your works recorded? Studio or at home? Which recorder mixed the songs for you?

J: “Forced Open”是Attis的一个朋友在卧室里录制的。“Malpractice”是由厄洛乌卢格在明亮的灯光工作室（圣安娜，加利福尼亚州）的专业记录和混合。

“Forced Open” was recorded in a bedroom by a friend of Attis. “Malpractice” was professionally recorded and mixed by Erol Ulug at Bright Lights Studio (Santa Ana, CA).

M: 你们乐队的标志设计非常独特。谁为你设计的标志？这张专辑的艺术品是同一位设计师为你设计的吗？你后来改了你的标志。谁为你设计了新的标志？

The logo design of your band is very unique. Who designed the logo for you? Is the artwork of the album designed for you by the same designer? You changed your logo later. Who designed the new logo for you?

J: 我们只有一个标志，这是由@one.dyingwish（Instagram）。其他的都不是我们。

We have had only one logo and that was made by @one.dyingwish (Instagram). Everything else was not us.

First of all, congratulations on your release of the latest EP album "forced" in 2019 Open "and 2020's latest single" malpractice ", I heard these two albums through your website, the latest single is my favorite, the arrangement is very complex, changeable, and very heavy, the drummer's performance is also very wonderful, your singing is also very good, so do you have your own views on these two new albums?

Thank you! “Forced Open” was good for what is, but it definitely sounds like a first release. I favor the production and complexity of “Malpractice”.

Did your band participate in any music festivals? What music festivals have impressed you

J: 我们还没有举行任何节日.

We have not played any festivals yet.

M: 当你第一次接触死亡金属音乐时你多大了？是什么乐队影响你形成了自己的风格？你能推荐一些你喜欢的乐队吗？

How old were you when you first came into contact with death metal music? What bands influenced you to form your own? Can you recommend some bands you like?

J: 我从13岁开始听死亡金属乐队，听像Cannibal Corpse和Dying Fetus这样的乐队。Maggot Stomp目前有一个生病的乐队名册，如200 Stab Wounds, Undeath和Frozen Soul。乐队和我也听了很多hardcore，这对我们的音乐产生了影响。

I started listening to death metal when I was about 13 and listened to bands like Cannibal Corpse and Dying Fetus. Maggot Stomp currently has a sick roster of bands, such as 200 Stab Wounds, Undeath, and Frozen Soul. The band and I also listen to a lot of hardcore, which takes influence in our music.

M: 现在是2021年。新年你有什么新工作要做吗？比如录制新专辑？

Now it's 2021. Do you have any new work to do in the new year? Like recording a new album?

这就是目标！我们已经写了几首歌了。生活对每个人来说都是忙碌的，所以我们重新开始录音只是时间问题。

That’s the goal! We have a handful of songs already written. Life has been hectic for everyone, so it’s only a matter of time before we can get back to recording.

M: 虽然你们是一个年轻乐队，中国你认识的人还很少。但你是一支非常出色的乐队。我希望通过我的文章，让更多的中国歌迷了解你，爱上你的音乐。那么你到底想对中国球迷说些什么呢？

Although you are a young band, you know very few people in China. But you're a very good band. I hope that through my article, more Chinese fans can understand you and fall in love with your music. So what do you want to say to Chinese fans?

We’re still a fairly new band, but I’m glad to sort out the confusion. We are from the United States, specifically California. We think it’s awesome that we have an audience coming from China! What you are doing with your articles is amazing from both musicians and fans. I’m glad we are able to connect from across the globe.
