美文选刊｜《千丈之松》，万代流传——商务印书馆生日快乐！
编者按
《千丈之松》为本刊主办单位商务印书馆的馆歌。商务印书馆创办于1897年2月11日，是我国现代历史最悠久、影响最大的出版机构。在124年的岁月中，与商务有文字缘的学人不下万人，其中知名人士足以千计。历史上，商务几次濒于危殆，1932年几乎全部毁于日本侵略者的炮火，但终因社会的支持和同仁的奋斗转危为安。一个文化出版机构不仅度过风风雨雨的一个多世纪，今天仍生气勃勃地为祖国的文化建设贡献着自己的力量。应该说，商务印书馆诞生和发展的全过程，是同我们民族的命运息息相关的。
商务印书馆馆歌的歌词集自其前辈员工张元济、茅盾、叶圣陶三人的诗词。歌词是历史体验的凝聚，唱出了心之曲、馆之魂，自然、平和，又充满希望。今日中华民族伟大复兴“望如朝曙”，过去百余年中数不尽的仁人志士和机构为这一理想奋进不止；商务馆歌唱出的正是那种前赴后继、百折不挠为理想而奋斗的精神。
本刊认为，商务馆歌雄浑厚重，意愿崇高，催人奋进，在新时代具有特别的意义。鉴此，本刊特邀请诗人译者许景城先生将其译成英文，双语对照刊发，以与读者共赏。

昌明教育平生愿，
To advance education, which has been our lifetime goal,
故向书林努力来；
We thus turn to books where our hard efforts will well pay off.
此是良田好耕植，
There are good fields that we should offer and plough heart and soul.
有秋收获仗群才。
The hope for good harvest, we deem, rests on talents’ leadoff.
世事白云苍狗，
White clouds turn in a trice into grey dogs aglow.
风涛荡激，
Waves surge and wind bellows.
顺潮流左右应付，
Brave, we’ve been going with the flow and dealing with the blow;
稳度过，滩险浪急。
Safely we have been sailing over shallows and billows.
论传天演，木铎启路。
You spread Evolution ‘n Ethics like an enlightening bronze bell.
日新无已，望如朝曙。
The sun always rises bright ‘n new when you lead us to strive ‘n excel.
敢云有志竟成，
“Where there is a will, there is a way,” you’ve always believed.
总算楼台平地。
How towering the business started from scratch we’ve achieved!
从今以后更艰难，
The road ahead will be longer and harder you foresee.
努力还需再试。
Stronger in will to strive, to quest ‘n not to yield we should be!
