金融时报:拉里·金
Mr King came over as an unpretentious Everyman of sorts (except for being married eight times to seven women). Now 76, he was born Lawrence Harvey Ziegler into a religious Jewish family in Brooklyn, never went to college and made his name, under his pseudonym, as an all-night radio host based in Miami. Talking to so many different people in short order meant he always worked off the cuff, a practice continued at CNN, where he once revealed he never read the book of any author he was interviewing. He relied on his gift of the gab to pull himself through
The curiosity about Larry King, who announced his retirement this week after 25 years as CNN’s prime-time talk show host, is that he has never been known for his opinions. On his own admission, he never even really considered himself a journalist. That explains his lengthy success and, ultimately, in these ever more partisan times, his demise.
He was also the classic soft-touch interviewer, 40,000 times over, never very demanding of his guests. That is why, from his CNN debut in 1985 to around 2000, he was the king of the talk show hill.
金先生是一个不装腔作势的普通人(除了跟七个女人结过八次婚),从未上过大学。在4万多次访谈中,他从未为难过他的客人。所以从1985年到2000年,他一直是脱口秀之王。
