Botanical Garden Art Biotop / Water Garden

About an hour's drive from Nasu Shiobara station, it is a beautiful scenery in a small valley. Here, there are two different locations to work: grass and forest. A garden needs to be created on the grass, but a new hotel is planned in the forest. Due to land use restrictions, buildings are only allowed to be built on forests.

The two sites are similar in size, about 16000 square meters. About 50 years ago, the grassland where the garden was supposed to be planted used to be paddy fields, but now there are still sluice gates for irrigation. Looking further ahead, the land used to be a mossy forest, similar to the current forest on the other half of the project site. So the designer suddenly thought: why not keep the forest and move to the adjacent meadow. It not only changes the current situation of the meadow, but also retains the beautiful trees, and overlaps the paddy field landscape and Bryophyte forest landscape into a whole by superimposing all the historical environmental layers in the site.

TIn order to achieve the purpose of transplanting the forest, the trees in the forest were recorded one by one.

After statistics, the location of trees is planned and designed according to the types, sizes and habits of trees.

The trees were rearranged and planted, and small ponds of various shapes were designed among the trees. Water is drawn from existing sluices to fill numerous small ponds.Every tree also has its own autonomy.

Can human interfere with nature? Ishikawa also proved to us that the new nature produced by reasonable planning may make all things in nature better integrated.
