13+考试（13 plus exam），可以理解为孩子申请Y9学校的选拔考试，专门针对想去读文法学校（grammar school）和私立学校的学生。通常学生会在学生Year8的夏季参加考试，基本上学生年龄在12-13岁，故而考试称为13+考试。
1. 13+考试考什么？
通常考察孩子的英语阅读、英语语法和拼写、数学运算、文字与图形的逻辑推理等等。需要注意的事，尽管英语与数学科目遵循英国的教学大纲，但是文字与图形推理并没有出现在公立学校的教学科目里，这两项能力在考试中也是同等重要的。

3.课程设置：
课程包含了英语（English），数学（Math），文字推理（Verbal Reasoning）和图形推理（Non-verbal Reasoning）几大部分。学生需要了解其中的考试技巧，以便更好的适应并迎接13+考试的挑战。
1) 英语（English）
13+英语考试非常具有挑战性，要求学生会运用高阶思维能力来解决问题。在此课程中，学生将阅读各种书籍、掌握很多高级词汇，从而实现在13+英语考试中获得好的分数。
课程目标：
· Grammar – including parts of speech or word classes. Sentence types and structure.
· Punctuation – how to use the full range of punctuation for maximum impact.
· Tenses and mistakes to avoid in English grammar.
· Spelling – including commonly misspelt words, prefixes, suffixes and spelling rules.
· Figurative language techniques – understanding the SHAMPOO acronym to identify these techniques in literary passages and to be able to write examples for use in creative writing.
· Literary prose comprehension – techniques and worked example. Understanding different question types and recommendation of suitable reading books.
· Poetry comprehension – including poetry terminology and worked example including analysing the meaning of poems.
· Persuasive writing – tips for writing a convincing argument, AFOREST acronym. Planning and proofreading written essays.
· Creative writing – how to structure a story and how to improve writing skills in particular increasing ambitious vocabulary.
· Descriptive writing – how to use the senses and other figurative language techniques to bring settings and characters alive.
2) 数学（Math）
本课程会教会学生运用数学知识来应对13+的数学考试应用题。学生将学习阅读和理解生僻问题，养成探究式的数学思维。本课程有助于学生在规定时间内懂得用系统的方法解决问题，锻炼其时间规划与管理能力，学生在数学课上将会学习如何进行高效的数学笔算与心算，以及如何阅读并理解数学领域的专业性词汇。
课程目标：
· Number and place value – ordering numbers and calculations involving the four operations and rounding.
· Types of number – negative numbers, prime numbers, factors, multiples, HCF and LCM.
· Fractions, percentages and decimals including calculations and conversions.
· Powers, roots and standard form.
· Algebra 1 – order of operations, simplifying terms and solving equations.
· Algebra 2 – expressions, formulas and sequences.
· Graphs including straight line graphs, conversions and simultaneous equations.
· Geometry – perimeter, area, volume and Pythagoras’ Theorem.
· Probability and statistics – averages, frequency tables and scatter graphs.
· Ratio and proportion – units, conversions, time and speed.
3) 文字推理（Verbal Reasoning）
文字推理题是所有英国学校13+考试中的核心部分。文字推理要求学生解决与英语语言文字有关的逻辑推理问题。本课程将教会学生如何巧妙的处理这类复杂的文字推理问题，如各种字谜题目，并且在整个课程中学习的高级词汇。
课程目标：
· Introduction to verbal reasoning and alphabet problems – useful skills and overview of question types. Alphabetical order, positions and identifying a letter from a clue.
· Word composition – missing letters, moving letters and words hidden in a sentence.
· Building words – find the missing word, making a word and compound words.
· Word problems – finding word pairs, anagrams and word ladders.
· Vocabulary 1 – synonyms, antonyms and multiple meanings.
· Vocabulary 2 – finding the odd one out, connections between words and reordering words in a sentence. Superfluous words.
· Coding – letter connections, letter-word codes and number-word codes.
· Logic – understanding the facts, solving riddles and word grids.
· Maths and sequences 1 – complete the sum, letter sequences and number sequences.
· Maths and sequences 2 – relationships between numbers and letter-coded sums.
4) 图形推理（Non-verbal Reasoning）
图形推理涉及到视觉信息的分析。学生必须非常仔细的观察一系列的图片，分析出图片模式与趋势。非文字推理考试是一些学校用来判断孩子的视觉能力、速度感知和午提物体操作能力的重要手段。

· Work out visual sequences
