Today I will introduce to you an old-fashioned death metal band Temple of Dread from Germany. It was founded by Markus Bünnemeyer in 2017. Then he invited Jens Finger and Jörg Uken to join the band (the three of them also died in another German band at the same time. Crazy and rich changes make their works even more exciting. The singers use old-fashioned death metal vocals to make their work more ferocious. Every song makes people feel very refreshing. Their lyrics were also composed by Markus Bünnemeyer's friend Frank Albers. The lyrics of the first two albums are typical death metal lyrics, and the lyrics of the third album are transformed into Greek mythology. The story, all their works were also recorded in the drummer’s studio "Soundlodge Studios". Drummer Jörg Uken is also one of the best sound engineers in Europe. You may not know that there are fans of your band in faraway China. First of all, say hello to your Chinese fans. Temple of dread was established in 2017 and is a band with a four-year history. Who proposed the formation of Temple of dread?

M: 向所有中国球迷问好！是的这实际上是对远东杂志的第一次采访。谢谢你的支持！Temple of Dread是我四年前创立的。我的学校朋友Frank Albers贡献了歌词，我的朋友Jörg Uken和Jens Finger曾今一起在另外一支死亡金属乐队“Slaughterday”中与他们一起演奏过，然后完成了这个组合。

Greetings to all you Chinese fans out there! Yes - this is actually the first interview for a magazine from the Far East. Thanks for your support! Temple of Dread was founded by me 4 years ago. My school friend Frank Albers contributed the lyrics and my friends Jörg Uken and Jens Finger, with whom I had already played in the Death Metal Band “Slaughterday”, then completed the group.

I believe the three of you are all old friends. It may be more convenient in terms of creation. So how do you usually create songs? Can you introduce this process? How often do you gather together to practice?You have also participated in many bands at the same time, I think this will make you very busy！Which studio did you record all your albums in, and which mixer made the albums for you?

It really helps that we've known each other for so long. Everyone knows the strengths and weaknesses of the other and we complete each other perfectly. Another big advantage is that our drummer Jörg Uken runs his own very well-known sound studio (“Soundlodge Studios”). He is probably one of the best producers for this kind of music in whole Europe. At his studio we can rehearse and also record our albums. Each of us actually has other bands. For Temple, I write most of the guitar riffs. Then Jörg thinks about the right drum beats and at the end Jens adds the vocals. A real “team-work”!

V: 你的音乐主题是什么？你的歌有歌词吗？谁创作了这些歌词，他的灵感是什么？

What is your music theme about? Do your songs have lyrics part? Who created these lyrics and what was his inspiration?

M: 在前两张专辑中我们是典型的死亡金属主题：人类的深渊、死亡和苦难。在上一张专辑中我们专注于古希腊神话。我们觉得这个话题很有趣，下一张专辑的歌词也将朝这个方向发展。我的老朋友Frank Albers为我们写了这些歌词。他的目标始终是用有趣而黑暗的歌词来支撑音乐的精神。

On the first two albums we had typical Death Metal themes: human abysses, death and suffering. On the last album we focused on ancient Greek myths. We find this topic so interesting that the lyrics of the next album will also go in this direction. My long-time friend Frank Albers wrote these lyrics for us. His goal is always to underpin the spirit of the music with interesting and dark lyrics.

All your albums are released on the label Testimony Records. I am not very familiar with this label. Can you introduce this label? Do you think the work of this label satisfies you?

Testimony Records is a small but nice label that specializes in underground Death Metal. The company is based in Hamburg and now established bands such as “Sentient Horror” or “Sodomisery” also belong to the portfolio. We are very satisfied with the great work done by the company.

You were founded in 2017, but your first work was released in 2019. Why are you going to release the work two years later?

At the beginning everything had to find itself anew: I knew immediately that Jörg should become the drummer. But the search for a singer turned out to be more difficult, because I actually only knew Jens as a guitarist. Our way of working was also not ideal at the time. Then there were a few appointment problems (e.g. free studio time) and of course the production times in the Vinyl pressing plants.

First of all, congratulations on the release of your third official album "Hades Unleashed" this year. You release an album every year. The speed is amazing, but this does not mean that your work is inferior, on the contrary your work. This is good. To be honest, I just listened to your work again today. Your work gives me a new feeling every time. Your work is influenced by old school death metal and thrash metal music. , After listening to your work, I feel that I have reached the 90s. You are influenced by some death metal bands in Europe and the United States. The progressive Riff is full of changes in every section. I like your guitarist’s playing skills and drummer’s quickness. Crazy, rich changes make your work more exciting overall. The singer uses the old-fashioned death metal vocals to make your work more fierce and ferocious. Every one of your songs makes people feel very refreshing. Without hesitation, all your works are my favorite albums. I can't find any flaws in your work. Do you have any insights and opinions on your work?

Thank you for your kind assessment. I've been a big Death and Thrash Metal fan for over 30 years. I write songs that I would like to hear myself. If a certain part seems too uninteresting to me, it is deleted. I try to set a fast pace, but still leave room for creative ideas. I don't want to reinvent the wheel, I want to honor the spirit of the eighties and nineties. The best bands and albums come from this time - and Temple of Dread want to sound the same!

V: 今年新专辑发行后有什么新工作要做？当然要先把这张专辑宣传好，哈哈

M: 我正忙着写新歌。其实这次我想给自己多一点时间，但是因为工厂的情况越来越糟（乙烯基生产时间一年多），我们将在五月录制下一张专辑。我相信我们可以再次保持Hades Unleashed的高标准！

V: 你参加过哪些音乐节？哪些音乐节给你留下了深刻印象，能介绍一下当时的气氛吗？

Which music festivals have you attended? Which music festivals have left a deep impression on you, can you introduce the atmosphere at the time?

M: 不幸的是我们还没有进行任何现场表演。我们经常参与我们的工作和我们的其他乐队。但我希望在这次冠状病毒大流行之后，也许终于有可能。

Unfortunately we haven't done any live performances yet. We are very much involved in our jobs and in our other bands. But I hope that after this corona pandemic, maybe something is finally possible.
