Black metal is one of the most popular extreme metal styles, and this is the second time for me to introduce this style of band. Today I want to introduce to you a single black metal band from Poland, Embarla Firgasto. Young Polish musician Krystian Łukaszewicz formed the band Embarla Firgasto alone, named after a game called "Gothic 2", and two years after its formation, the band released their first album on Polish black metal label Okaleczenie After the EP album "Inter Spem et Metum" was released on tape in a limited number of 66 copies, Krystian Łukaszewicz participated as drummer in a death metal style band called Resurrection and recorded the first for the band. Hello Krystian, nice to meet you and thank you very much for contacting me for my interview, I think this is your first interview with a Chinese magazine, first of all, say hello to your Chinese fans, Embarla Firgasto was founded in In 2016, it has been 6 years so far, so how did you come up with the idea of forming this band in the first place, and what does the name Embarla Firgasto mean?

Greetings! Before we start, thank you very much for having me and the opportunity to be somewhat part of the Chinese metal scene because of this interview! Never thought to reach THAT far away which is super cool to know! Yes, Embarla Firgasto was founded in 2016 and the initial idea was to start creating own music as an immature, inexperienced, much younger musician at that time. The final result from the aforementioned time period was the first, official EP album “Inter Spem et Metum” which contains 3 songs and the total amount of 22 minutes. Honestly speaking, the band name is an actual potion made from dragons’ eggs from RPG video game Gothic 2 that I am a huge fan of to this day. I do not recall that the name itself means something in particular, but it just sounded cool to my ears. Some people have already told me that the name is cringey, but who gives a shit?

You are the only one in the band. I think this will make it easier to create your songs, because you can create songs according to your own ideas. Can you tell us how you create songs?
K: 我可以部分同意，当你独自一人时创作歌曲更容易，因为没有人站在你自己的背后告诉你要改变什么/做什么。 然而编写所有的器乐部分、录音、混音以及缺少给你良好反馈的人可能会很痛苦，因为我只能像在普通乐队中一样录制电吉他。 创作音乐背后的哲学并不复杂，天知道有多么难以理解。通常我想出一些想法，独自坐在我的工作室里把它们写下来，把它们记录在一个演示版本中，然后尽可能长时间地处理它们。有时需要几个月的持续关注，但这肯定是值得的！
I can partly agree that it is easier to create songs when you are alone as nobody stands in front of your own back and tells you what to change/what to do. However, writing all the instrumental sections, recording it, mixing it and lacking people who give you good feedback can be just pain in the ass given I could have recorded electric guitars only as if I was in a normal band. The philosophy behind creating music is not super complex and God knows how difficult to understand. Usually, I come up with ideas, sitting alone in my studio, write them down, record them in a demo version and work on them as long as it takes. Sometimes it takes months of constant focus, but it’s surely worth the effort!

Your musical theme is about philosophy, why did you choose such a musical theme? Do you usually like books or movies in this area? What ideas do you want to express through such musical themes? Did you write the lyrics, and what was the inspiration for those lyrics?
K: 一般来说，我是一个巨大的读者和电影观众！书籍和电影是我抒情灵感的很大一部分，不会撒谎。 哲学是对知识的追求，源于对世界不透明感的惊喜。 因此我对这样一个话题很感兴趣，并且愿意公开展示它。通过我的音乐我想传达一个明确的信息——我们一文不值。 我们在生活中的目标和计划主要来自自然的、人类的利己主义，这实际上毫无意义。无论你是谁，无论你是多么富有或贫穷，死亡都会夺走你的一切。最后我想指出，我写了所有的歌词，灵感来自人类。非常基本的答案但就是这样。人类生活在一个循规蹈矩、唯物主义、消费主义、缺乏创新和独立思考的世界。
Generally speaking, I am a huge reader and movie viewer! Books and movies are a large part of my lyrical inspirations, not gonna lie. Philosophy is the pursuit of knowledge, arising from the surprise caused by the feeling of the non-transparency of the world. Hence my interest within such a topic and the will to show it publicly. Through my music, I want to give one, clear message – we are worth nothing. Our goals and plans in life come mainly from natural, human egoism that means literally nothing. No matter who you are, how rich or poor you are, death takes everything from you. In the end, I want to point out that I wrote all the lyrics and the inspiration comes from the humans. Pretty basic answer, but that’s how it is. Humans, living in the world of conformity, materialism, consumerism and lack of innovation and independent thinking.

Your songs are recorded very well, every instrument can be heard very clearly, which studio was the song recorded in? Who made the album for you?

The logo was made by Dan’s Putrid Art and the cover art was painted manually by Belial NecroArts. I personally believe that those two fellows did a splendid job on those things! Go check them out if you’re looking for something alike!

You signed a contract with Okaleczenie in your country, and he released the 2018 EP album tape version for you, but the number is very rare, in fact, I think only 66 copies are released, which is a certain obstacle to the spread of your music, why do you Don't choose a hairstyle and make more copies? Generally speaking, the whole story with Okaleczenie is so random. They hit me up accidentally when I was promoting “Inter Spem et Metum” and offered me the release in the form of tapes. I agreed to this as I had nothing left to lose, I got my copies that were later sent to some of my acquaintances. Overall, I see this as a one-shot action and there are no plans regarding releasing more EF music through that label. However, there have been plans going in my head for a long time to make more Embarla Firgasto merch as, let’s be honest, there’s almost nothing. At the same time, I wanna be realistic – I do not have a music fanbase and producing 100 CDs just for the sake of keeping it on my shelf is not the most brilliant idea. If there will ever be more intense interest in my music, I will do my best to take care of this aspect.

First of all thank you for sending me your upcoming new album song and let me hear it in advance, first of all I haven't heard your 2018 EP album work, so I can't comment on it, but your new song I I like it very much, the new song uses more old school death metal playing techniques, a large section of very exciting riffs, continuous, although the speed of your works is not as fast as many bands now, you always keep in It's a medium speed level, but I can feel that you are very hard at arranging, plus some black metal's cold, dark atmosphere, first of all I can be sure that your work will be my personal ten in 2022 One of the greatest works, your singing also adopts the standard way of death metal singing, deep voice, very powerful, I personally prefer to listen to your new works as death metal, I don't know how to rate you Are your works correct? Thank you for such warm feedback man! Frankly, I have no idea how to describe my music. There are black metal, death metal, avantgarde elements but if I had to pick one, I wouldn’t be able to. I just made something I had in mind for the past 4 years, it surely includes several styles and I stick to this. Period. Also, the main idea behind this album was not to make the fastest, most brutal record ever, but to tell a certain story, share the atmosphere. With “Inter Spem et Metum” I wanted just to release something, without any deeper view of what it should look like. But, the more I think of it, the more I am convinced that the previous record was definitely more harsh and black metal due to poor sound quality and the vocals.
V: 新专辑发行后你还有什么工作要做？ 比如如果你继续创作新作品或者其他一些作品，你能不能向大家透露一些信息？
What else do you have to work on after the release of the new album? For example, if you continue to create new works or some other work, can you reveal some information to everyone?
K: 呵呵，有些事情我想保密，但我可以告诉你——Embarla Firgasto 现在已经完成（但这并不意味着我结束了这个项目——只要我还活着，它就活着）并且会有一个新的 项目。 我无法为您提供更多信息，但也值得等待！
Hehe, I want to keep some things in secret but I can tell you this – Embarla Firgasto is done for now (but it does not mean that I end the project – it’s alive as long as I am alive) and there will be a new project. I cannot give you more information but it’s also worth waiting!
V: 你玩过现场吗？ 有哪些现场表演给你留下了深刻的印象，能介绍一下当时的现场气氛吗？
Have you ever played live? Which live performances have left a deep impression on you, can you tell us about the live atmosphere at that time?
K: 事实上我和我的前乐队Deathspawn一起现场演奏过。我已经表演了3次——Słupsk、Poznań、Grudziądz（顺便说一句，都是波兰城市）迄今为止我最好的表演是在Grudziądz的表演，因为在一个几乎很小的场地里大约有100人，几乎所有来自该地区的金属头都过来观看我们的比赛。非常酷的氛围，美好的回忆，我绝对对现场表演说“是”，他们感觉非常好！
Indeed, I have played live along with my ex-band Deathspawn. I have performed 3 times – Słupsk, Poznań, Grudziądz (all are Polish cities by the way). The best performance I’ve had so far was the one in Grudziądz as there were around 100 people in a practically small venue and almost all metalheads from that area came up to watch us play. Very cool atmosphere, amazing memories and I absolutely say “yes” to live performances, they feel so goddamn good!
V: 哪些乐队影响了您组建自己的乐队？ 你能说出一些你最喜欢的乐队吗？
K: 从一开始，我就受到Aosoth、Deathspell Omega 和VI等乐队的启发，但现在我也不能只选择几个乐队。 有太多要提到的，而且名单还在继续……
