1923 has assembled quite the cast. Headlining things are two A-list stars: Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford.
Ford is set to play Jacob Dutton, the patriarch of Yellowstone ranch at the start of the series and brother of James Dutton, who was played by Tim McGraw in 1883. Mirren plays Cara Dutton, Jacob's wife and the Dutton matriarch.

Like Yellowstone proper, the main plotline of 1923 is the fight to keep the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch, but in the 1920s under patriarch Jacob Dutton (Harrison Ford) and matriarch Cara Dutton (Helen Mirren). The pair inherited the ranch after the death of 1883’s founding Duttons, James and Margaret.
Times are hard and there’s nothing for cattle to graze throughout 1923 Season 1, putting Jacob at odds with shepherds led by Banner Creighton (Jerome Flynn). In the premiere, Creigthon cuts Dutton fencing, allowing his sheep to graze on Yellowstone land. So Jacob and his men hang them all above their horses in Episode 2, allowing for a slim chance of survival. Banner is the only one to survive, and becomes Jacob’s arch nemesis hell-bent on revenge.
The series follows a generation of the Dutton family in 1923, during a time of various hardships including Prohibition, drought, and the early stages of the Great Depression, which affected Montana long before the Wall Street Crash of 1929.
What Is Happening on 1923 So Far?
Following a shootout with sheep herder Banner Creighton (Flynn), the Dutton family took on some major casualties. 1883's James Dutton (Tim McGraw) eventually passed the Yellowstone ranch onto his brother, Jacob (Harrison Ford) and his wife Cara (Helen Mirren), but now they need even more help to protect their land from those who wish to take it for their own. Before the break, Cara reached out to her nephew, Spencer (Brandon Sklenar), about returning home to help the family. The World War I veteran and African big game hunter must now brave an adventure to return to his family in Montana.
