英国学校在year7的时候，会给学生提供现代语言课程，学生会在法语、西班牙语、日语、汉语等等语言中先进行全面的了解再进行选择。每个语言老师会给大家上一节introduction的课程，然后再让学生回家和父母商量进行选择。在这个过程中，老师不仅会讲自己授课的语言，还包括语言的阅读技巧以及语言通用的语法规则等。甚至还会教学生使用手语。这一点是令人非常惊讶和惊喜的，英国认为手语也是一门非常重要的语言。
